Addressing a common misconception: Did the 3 witnesses of the #BookofMormon only see the golden plates with their "spiritual eyes"? 📒👀 a thread:
Martin Harris: "I was the right-hand man of Joseph Smith, and I know that he was a Prophet of God. I know the Book of Mormon is true." Then, smiting his fist on the table, he said-- "AND YOU KNOW THAT I KNOW THAT IT IS TRUE." (as told by D. Dille, 1853)
Oliver Cowdery correctly prophesied that "wicked men [would conspire] to lessen the effects of [his] testimony" after his death. (Letter to Phineas Young, 1846)
"Of course we were in the spirit when we had the view, for no man can behold the face of an angel, except in a spiritual view, but we were in the body also, and everything was as natural to us, as it is at any time." - David Whitmer to Metcalf, 1888 (in Cook's D. W. Interviews)
"I now say, I handled those plates; there were fine engravings on both sides. I handled them." - John Whitmer (Theodore Turley; cited in EMDv5)
My great-great grandmother grew up in Clarkston, UT. Her YW groups would sometimes go visit Martin Harris towards the end of his life. She said that he was very feeble and struggled with everything, but would always shoot right up and clearly testify of what he experienced if…
Martin Harris: "The Book of Mormon is no fake. I know what I know. I have seen what I have seen and I have heard what I have heard. I have seen the gold plates from which the Book of Mormon is written." (George Godfrey, Church History Library, MS #2473)
My ancestor, Edward Bunker, was converted when he stopped in Kirtland while exploring the country. The church had already left, but Martin Harris remained behind, having apostatized. Edward heard Martin's testimony, and went to Nauvoo and was baptized.
Martin Harris: "The Book of Mormon is no fake. I know what I know. I have seen what I have seen and I have heard what I have heard. I have seen the gold plates from which the Book of Mormon is written." (George Godfrey, Church History Library, MS #2473)

"I was not under any hallucination, nor was I deceived! I saw with these eyes and I heard with these ears! I know whereof I speak!" - David Whitmer, 1884 (Saints' Herald, 1936)

It wasn’t only Mary Whitmer and the 11 official witnesses who saw, handled, hefted, or in some other way interacted with the plates. So how many people had an interaction of the plates, and who are they?
Martin Harris: "The Book of Mormon is no fake. I know what I know. I have seen what I have seen and I have heard what I have heard." (George Godfrey, Church History Library, MS 2473)
David Whitmer: "It was not like the light of the sun, nor like that of a fire, but more glorious and beautiful." (interview with Orson Pratt and Joseph F. Smith, Deseret News 1878; cited in Cook, D. W. Interviews)
You will believe me when I say, that earth, nor men, with the eloquence of time, cannot begin to clothe language in as interesting and sublime a manner as this holy personage - Oliver Cowdery referring to the visit of John the Baptist (Messenger and Advocate, 1834)
I have never denied my testimony that is published in the Book of Mormon, for I know that God has revealed these things for the salvation of the children of men. David Whitmer to James Hart
In 1831, there was a #GeneralConference in Ohio — "At this conference the eleven witnesses to the Book of Mormon, with uplifted hands, bore their solemn testimony to the truth of that book, as did also the Prophet Joseph" (L Johnson History, @Deseret News, 1858)
In the April 1921 #GeneralConference, Oliver Cowdery, was quoted as saying the following before his rebaptism: "I was associated with the Prophet Joseph Smith, but through my own weakness I have been disfellowshipped by that people, and I am sorry this ever occurred."
