I build software for a living. Running for Salt Lake City Council (District 3). I'm on a mission to make SLC work better for everyone!
~announcement time~ Hey friends, I’m excited to share that I am running for City Council in SLC! Our city has so much potential, but we’re facing some big challenges—families are moving away because of housing costs, school closures, homelessness, and neglected infrastructure…

My guess as to Lurie’s popularity: - deliver tangible results over easy ideological wins - focus on improving the basics, that raises everyone’s quality of life and happiness - communicate clearly, set a compelling vision, and nail the execution We can do this in SLC
Lurie's approval rating is stunning. Even the ultra-left support him now. For context, Breed's approval rating was 28% and she did not lose by a huge margin (2% in the first round, 10% ultimately).
I'm sponsoring a Pie and Beer Day ride with the Avenues Bicycle Club on Thursday. Join us!

I’m glad that SLC has been more responsive, but violent crime is up 8.5% YTD. Not the time to take a victory lap.
Six months after acknowledging that Salt Lake City wasn't doing enough to ensure public safety, Mayor Erin Mendenhall on Wednesday announced that "tremendous progress" has been made in implementing the city's public safety plan. ow.ly/NZ0k50WqVEt
Vibe shift here. And I think Eva is right. Already seeing it in 2025 after knocking hundreds of doors this year.
Negative. As in 2027 is the year of cost of living and meeting basic levels of service. Livability > everything else
Abundance for Families, LFG
Cities are failing families, and parents are opting out. NYC lost 17% of its under-5 population since 2020. SF has more dogs than kids. Meanwhile, birthrates plummet. The US won't succeed without fixing this. Yesterday I published an 8-part "Abundance for Families" agenda: 🧵
This is a half baked idea, so obviously I'm going to tweet it. I run/ride this stretch of 11th avenue above the cemetery multiple times a week. There's very little shoulder on each side of the street. Perhaps it makes sense to combine both bike lanes onto the south side of the…

This might sound trivial, but one way we can make SLC better for kids is to build a nice splash pad. Simple, yet nobody has done anything about it.
On my bike ride this morning: Southbound traffic on State street was backed up to the roundabout on 300 N. Need to get the Davis county drivers onto 300 W & North Temple once construction is done.

Salt Lake Central station is terrible. Can't believe that's our flagship Frontrunner station. @RioGrandePlan all the way baby.
I’ve been in SF all week with my kids. Have to say, this city is way more family friendly than SLC. - Parks are plentiful, safe, clean - Transit is easy and accessible for them - Adults are genuinely delighted to see kids in the city SF has done this at scale, why can’t SLC…

One principle I believe strongly in: term limits. After 2 terms (8 years) complacency starts to creep in. If elected, I will push for adding term limits to @slcCouncil. Perhaps @slcmayor as well.
These barriers on Bonneville Blvd are great to keep pedestrians safe during construction, but they are too claustrophobic for bikes. Once construction is done in the canyon, I’d like to find a more flexible barrier so that bikes can weave in and out.

My vision for SLC: - Continue to be the most progressive city in Utah - Start focusing on becoming the best run city in Utah - Earn a reputation for being one of the best run cities in America This is an Abundance agenda. We can be progressive and efficient/focused/innovative
Helped two families move this morning. 5 kids between them. They are moving because they got priced out of the Avenues. Moving to Bountiful and Daybreak. SLC must work better for families.
And one more thing to call out, because we don't have enough revenue to cover our expenses, @SLCgov is starting to signal that we'll need to increase property taxes next year.
I'm not a CFO, but overall I'm seeing that @SLCgov is not being sufficiently prudent given the economic circumstances they say we're trying to weather. Chris Wharton as the chair of @slcCouncil needs to be asking some tough questions of @slcmayor.
