Nobody agrees right now. So make them believe. And hopefully stay healthy next season. Cam Thomas is just 23 years old. He should use the critiques as motivation and take an honest look at the warts in his game. Show the league you can do what they say you don’t do. Ball is in…
“Cam Thomas thinks of himself as one of the most elite playmaker scorers in the NBA, and he wants to be compensated as such.” - @JakeLFischer
The move for the Yankees is becoming obvious to me. Ben Rice is your trade chip to try to acquire a 3B or pitching. Trent Grisham should be floated in trades too. Paul Goldschmidt is your 1B against lefties. Cody Bellinger is in the lineup every day but plays 1B against…
A scout made a good point about Spencer Jones yesterday: “which team would ever (expletive) trade a recently turned 24 year old with a. 700+ SLG? He should be up in the majors instead of being in trade rumors right now."
This is very likely the best offer that Cam Thomas is going to get this summer. I’d guess the team option is ultimately what the sides haggle about once Thomas realizes he can’t fetch an offer sheet from another team.
The Nets’ offer to Cam Thomas is a two-year, $14.1 million-per-year deal with a team option, per @JakeLFischer (h/t @Fullcourtpass )
It’s pure speculation that this happening not once but twice could be a sign that the Nets are considering retiring Kevin Durant’s jersey down the line. However, retiring KD’s jersey in Brooklyn would be as much about honoring KD as the Nets looking to associate themselves with…
Second Nets player this offseason (Egor Dëmin) to initially choose to wear #7 only to switch shortly after to a new number. Hmm..
Second Nets player this offseason (Egor Dëmin) to initially choose to wear #7 only to switch shortly after to a new number. Hmm..
UPDATE: Michael Porter Jr. will wear No. 17 instead of No. 7 for the #Nets. Number last worn by Dennis Schröder in 2024. #NBA
Nice to finally have some cap flexibility to reward and incentivize players who deserve it.
Sources: The #Giants have rewarded star DT Dexter Lawrence, adding $3M in incentives to his current deal for 2025. Lawrence is set to make $17M this season, plus the newly negotiated incentives. After another stellar season, NYG does right by its Pro Bowler.
*If* he leaves the Nets. Important clarification about these odds. It’s still overwhelmingly likely that Cam Thomas is back in Brooklyn for this season.
The Detroit Pistons are the favorites to land Cam Thomas, per @BovadaOfficial Detroit Pistons +350 Charlotte Hornets +400 Chicago Bulls +400 Memphis Grizzlies +400 Orlando Magic +650 Utah Jazz +650 Washington Wizards +650
No real news here.
Kyrie confirmed the following: - Atkinson & him did not like eachother - He *felt* like the Nets only cared about KD’s voice - He was against the Nash hiring, but KD pushed - KD mad Kyrie didn’t extend - Told Nets to cut him for vaccine - Harden requested trade cause of him
The James Harden trade was the move that turned the KD/Kyrie Nets into Tier 1 title contenders. The downhill creator that tied 7/11’s perimeter oriented/finesse scoring brilliance together. This is not where it went wrong, it’s just the all-in move that made it difficult to…
The Brooklyn Nets biggest mistake in the past 5 years (via @espn) "Trading for James Harden (2021)"
98 down the pipe taken for a call strike three to end the game. Bad way to lose.
“We love Cam. We think he’s one of the best scoring guards in the league, and an underrated playmaker. We’ll see what happens, but our feelings about Cam as a player and person have never wavered. We love him,” a Nets coach said. A LOT more on Nets from coaches and execs.
NBA Summer League is a bit about watching basketball and a lot about talking to people around the NBA about basketball. For @spotrac I emptied out half of my SL notebook. Here are notes from executives, coaches & scouts for all 15 Eastern Conference teams! spotrac.com/news/_/id/2912…
Cam Johnson on Jordi Fernandez and the Brooklyn Nets: “I have so much respect for that coaching staff in Brooklyn. I really loved playing for Jordi. I think Jordi has a tremendously bright future in this league. I think Brooklyn has a bright future. Those are my guys for sure.”
The most self-aware prospect I’ve seen in a longtime. Egor Dëmin finds the perfect balance of confidence and humility every time he speaks. It’s easy to see why Brooklyn fell in love with him.
Egor Dëmin: "I think I might spend more time in the lifting room than on the court ... I'm super aware of myself and what I need to get better at. I'm living in the lifting room. I'm not getting upset because I know how much I'm putting into this. It's just a question of time."
And then the Nets just match that short-term, less money deal. Welcome to restricted free agency.
Denver and Milwaukee would be at the top of my list. And I’d say if I’m Cam Thomas I’d even take less money on a short term deal to go there. A prove it situation where he could both win and change the perception about him.
If you drop the threshold to sub 23 AST% and at least a 25 USG% (perhaps a more likely role on a better team), there were three other players who met these requirements alongside Cam Thomas: Tre Mann CJ McCollum Kyrie Irving Obviously, Irving is the only player to really get…
Cam Thomas was the only 6’4’’ or below guard in the NBA last year with a sub 23 AST% and at least a 32 USG%. He’s just a very unique player without a clear comp on a modern championship contender. It’s clear he is a special scorer but he also has some evident drawbacks. That…
