In the 1930s, Soviets destroyed St Michael’s Golden-Domed Cathedral (12th century) in Kyiv. Before the destruction, Ukrainian restorers saved parts of its frescoes and mosaics. Some were moved to St. Sophia Cathedral. I saw them and want to show you.

Every time I visit, I’m in awe. I’ve shown it to you before, but let the ceiling and the Oranta (also known as the Virgin Orans) be a small feast for your Friday eyes. St. Sophia Cathedral, completed in 1037. (Later, I’ll tell you why I visited it again)
