Out today @NatureAging ! Life stress can accelerate aging and shorten lifespan, but how remains unclear. We identify that hippocampal/cortical neurons acquire features of p16-dependent #senescence and DNA damage in mice exposed to chronic social stress. nature.com/articles/s4358…

Indeed, very cool result that matches the co-evolutionary history of TLQP-21 and C3aR pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31484069/
3/n The species-specific pharmacology is not limited to synthetic ligands but also extends to the natural C3aR agonists! For example, TLQP21, a VGF-derived, non-C3a agonist of C3aR, also shows a dramatic preference for the mouse receptor, especially in the beta-arrestin assay!
Congratulations @arshukla for yes another fantastic study on C3aR (and C5aR) and its endogenous and synthetic ligands!!!
1/n We profile a broad set of C3aR/C5aR1 agonists on the human/mouse receptors, and uncover some very interesting pharmacology and functional specialization. For example, C5a-d-Arg, the naturally-encoded version of C5a, acts as a robust G-protein-biased agonist at C5aR1!
📣New network funding available soon!📣 The Request for Applications for our Research Network's pilot awards, small/working group awards, and the Bruce McEwen Fellowship will go live beginning on June 1, 2025. See the post below for details! @SMack_Lab @BartolomucciLab @jtung5
A couple of leadership updates! Congratulations and welcome @SMack_Lab (ASU) to our network PI team. We look forward to growing this vibrant community with you! @BartolomucciLab has also been named contact PI on the NIA R24 renewal. Subaward application details announced soon!
We're thrilled to announce that the NIA R24 grant that supports the Animal Models for the Social Dimensions of Health and Aging Research Network has been renewed through 2030! Thank you to everyone who made this renewal possible. New funding applications to be announced soon!
Congratulations Jenny!!!!!
Congratulations Jenny Tung of @MPI_EVA_Leipzig, newly inducted #NASmember! #NAS162 #anthropology
We recently published @GeroScienceAGE the development and validation of the mouse social frailty index (mSFI) link.springer.com/article/10.100… We now report a detailed step-by-step @bioprotocolbyte resource paper describing how to conduct the mSFI. bio-protocol.org/en/bpdetail?id…

Bringing to your attention this National Academies Workshop on the neurobiology of stress and resilience across the lifespan. I’m honored to be co-chairing it with @EricJNestler. A wonderful lineup of speakers & participants with lived experience. nationalacademies.org/event/43074_03…
