Ambassador Barbara Woodward
@BWoodward_UN
UK Permanent Representative to the United Nations, New York. Working with @UKUN_NewYork team to build the future we want, the @UN we need. Formerly @UKinChina.
The IDF has killed starving Palestinian civilians trying to get aid. Settler terrorism and talk of imposing the illegal E1 settlement plan are flagrant attempts to prevent a Palestinian state. There is no justification for this. A two-state solution is the only path to peace.
The @UN's Human Rights Council promotes human rights around the globe and addresses human rights violations. The UK's Minister for Equalities @SeemaMalhotra1 explains the UK is ready to serve with action and purpose to promote dignity for all, if elected to the @UN_HRC.
The UK strongly condemns Houthi attacks on ships in the Red Sea and the smuggling of weapons into Yemen. We call on the international community to work together and with the UN to stop these illegal acts and help improve the dire humanitarian situation in Yemen.
Today we remember the victims and survivors of the Srebrenica genocide. We will never forget the thousands of lives stolen or destroyed by what happened there 30 years ago. The UK will continue to support an inclusive and sovereign State of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The @UN Charter remains one of our greatest collective accomplishments. The UK will work with @antonioguterres to deliver a reformed UN that delivers what the Charter promised: A world where rights triumph over force and hope triumphs over despair. #UN80
80 years ago, after WWII, nations signed the @UN Charter. It is the foundation of international peace and security, human rights and development. Let us unite now, as we did then, and remember the hard-learned lessons of the past. Progress is not inevitable. It takes hard work.
80 years ago, the UK was the only country to send an all-female delegation to sign the @UN Charter. Women in diplomacy have played a huge role in driving forward progress on peace, security and human rights.
Iran must not get a nuclear weapon. The US took action last night to alleviate this threat. The UK has not taken part in US or Israeli strikes. We urge all parties to now pursue a deal to address Iran’s nuclear escalation. Now is the time for restraint and diplomacy.
Wonderful to celebrate His Majesty The King's birthday with friends and colleagues at the @UN last week. Honoured to welcome Christopher Wheeldon OBE with his imagining of Shakespeare's The Winter’s Tale with @ABTBallet — a remarkable example of British excellence in the Arts.
Last week at the @UN we honoured His Majesty The King’s birthday with colleagues from across the world. @ABTBallet performed an excerpt of Shakespeare’s The Winter's Tale, a ballet created by British choreographer Christopher Wheeldon OBE, on show at the @MetOpera House in July.
Half a million Palestinians in Gaza are facing starvation. Yet they are being killed and injured as they try to get to Gaza Humanitarian Foundation sites. This is inhumane. I told the Security Council this morning we will keep pushing Israel to lift its blocks on UN aid access.
Deeply saddened by news of a devastating plane crash in Ahmedabad, India. My thoughts are with all those affected. The UK is working with local authorities in India to urgently establish the facts and provide support.
On Oceans Day, Ambassador @BWoodward_UN talks about joining @UN Patron of the Oceans, @LewisPugh, on his record-breaking swim around Martha’s Vineyard. Next week, the UK heads to the @UN Ocean Conference #UNOC3 in Nice, working with partners to protect and restore our ocean.
Plastic in our ocean harms marine life, enters the food chain and damages the planet. Without action, ocean plastic could nearly triple by 2040 and decimate the ocean's ecosystem. The UK is working towards an ambitious @UN treaty to end plastic pollution. #WorldEnvironmentDay

The UK voted for today's resolution because Israel’s block on aid into Gaza needs to end. Israel's new system is not working. Palestinians have been killed as they try to reach the very few aid sites that Israel has permitted. It is inhumane. Israel must let the @UN save lives.
Congratulations @LewisPugh, @UN Patron of the Oceans, on completing the first-ever swim around Martha’s Vineyard. #TheSharkSwim has reminded us that the ocean ecosystem is ours to respect, protect and restore. An inspiration and privilege to join you for part of the 59 miles.

Israel has blocked aid from entering Gaza for over two months. Gazans are at risk of starvation. International law requires Israel to allow aid to get to civilians. Gaza is no exception to this rule. All European members of the Security Council call on Israel to let aid in now.
"In our hands now lies not only our own future but that of all other living creatures with whom we share the Earth" Happy 99th Birthday to Sir David Attenborough, who has long taught us about life on earth and the ecosystems that support it. We must protect our planet together.
Happy birthday Sir David Attenborough! And thank you for your tireless commitment to #ClimateAction. Here's how you can #ActNow and join him in protecting our planet: un.org/actnow
80 years ago, courageous Allied forces liberated Europe. 80 years ago, the @UN was formed to build a more peaceful world. Today, the UN’s mission is more important than ever. The UK remains committed to the UN Charter and maintaining global peace and security.
Over 473 million children today live in conflict-affected areas. Peacebuilding not only ends violence but creates the stability for people to thrive. The UK has contributed over $250M to @UNPeacebuilding, supporting multilateral action for a more peaceful, prosperous world.
🙏 Thank you, United Kingdom, @UKUN_NewYork, for your steadfast support! ☑️$250M+ to Peacebuilding Fund since 2005 ☑️Empowering locally-led solutions ☑️Advancing #WomenPeaceSecurity ☑️Proving that #InvestingInPeace works
For over 50 days, Israel has fully blocked humanitarian aid to Gaza. This is completely unacceptable. Vital supplies are running out and Palestinians risk facing starvation. With France and Germany, we urge Israel to immediately restart the flow of aid. gov.uk/government/new…
“One touch of nature makes the whole world kin.” On Shakespeare Day, his wise words remind us all to protect our planet for a more stable, secure world. The UK is working with partners internationally to restore nature and make net zero emissions a reality.
