What an absolutely fantastic day we had yesterday celebrating & commemorating VE Day 80 at our historic hangars here at Old Sarum Airfield. We are so pleased so many visitors, participants and supporters had such a great day with us and the many external organizations involved.

Proud to display the finds from 2024's Operation Nightingale's Digging Band of Brothers dig w/ finds from Aldbourne + RAF Ramsbury at @BDACatOldSarum as part of their VE Day commemorative event. Artifacts found by veterans and WIS service personnel. Also with @wessexarch

I've been asked to give a talk on the history of RAF Beaulieu at @BDACatOldSarum in May, for their VE Day 80 celebration. If you've not been, it's an amazing museum, with an incredible aircraft collection. It's at the historic Old Sarum Airfield north of Salisbury.

On 7 July 1917 German Gotha bombers made a daylight raid on London, following one on 13 June, both times exposing the weakness of London’s air defences. Anti-German riots broke out. This aggressive action against people with German names had an effect right to the top. 1/4

In the woods near Venlo, you can find the dark remains of a German Luftwaffe airfield. Fliegerhorst Venlo contained more than a hundred hangars. It was mainly used by night fighters. When the Germans retreated on 3 September 1944, they blew up all the hangars and buildings. #WW2
