NEW: Learning disabled people die 20+ years earlier than the general population. This is why. Myles was 31. He had a totally treatable blood clot yet a coroner found his medical treatment neglectful, complacent & dismissive. I spoke with his family. itv.com/news/2025-07-1β¦

It's so sad that it's considered radical to say that even disabled people who are unable to work should still have nice things. A coffee every once in a while, a nice dinner, a fun trip. Just because you're unable to contribute to capitalism doesn't mean you should suffer.
Iβm ashamed to live in a country that just passed a welfare bill condemning hundreds of thousands to deeper poverty and despair. Iβm ashamed of a Labour government that refused to work WITH disabled people to build a benefits system based on dignity, not punishment. #BinUCBill
donβt think a clearer message could be sent to learning disabled and autistic people that their health, their lives and their deaths donβt matter georgejulian.co.uk/2025/07/07/disβ¦

Interesting, wonder if this approach will benefit #csfleak patients? As we are often misdiagnosed and spend years trying to get effective treatment. @csfleakuk

Iβm always pro-disabled people leading what affects them but the reality is, many disabled and chronically ill people are paying a huge physical price for fighting tomorrowβs welfare bill. Many are suffering more pain and exhaustion from campaigning, all whilst in a heatwave. 1/2
The extra cost of being disabled in UK will rise by almost 12% in five years, says @scope. That means finding another Β£15k a year just to live at the same standard as non-disabled people. But MPs should cut PIP tomorrow, right? Seems logical and humane? theguardian.com/politics/2025/β¦
My first @glastonbury. The Park Stage, Saturday 6PM.
Only one 'activity' in the PIP assessment has a 3-point descriptor. This concession would fail to address the central problem with the proposed change - that people scoring 2 points on multiple activities may be just as impaired as someone scoring higher points in fewer areas
One possible concession on welfare (that Iβve heard talked about) is to change the PIP rules so you need to score at least a 3 instead of a 4 to qualify. @resfoundation say that would hit 35% of people on PIP daily living compared to 46% now, 314,000 fewer people
This could be the fatal blow these cuts-posing-as-reforms deserve Supporting more disabled people into work is a welcome aspiration, but cutting benefits to meet an imposed savings target, with no meaningful consultation, is neither supportive of nor justified by that objective
Here is the text of the amendment which would - in effect - kill the government's welfare reforms. Amendment will be published tomorrow
For MPs considering whether they should support this amendment, this joint briefing from @TrussellUK @jrf_uk @scope @MindCharity @CitizensAdvice @CPAGUK @Z2K_trust @turn2us_org @sensecharity & @NEF sets out the case to rethink cuts to disability benefits: ucpipbill.co.uk
Update: 108 Labour MPs, led by six committee chairs (though others have signed), have already backed a reasoned amendment which could kill the governmentβs welfare bill π
Much of the Government's intention for cutting PIP and UC is to motivate people to find a job But cutting social security can't 'incentivise' people into jobs that don't exist New @jrf_uk analysis shows there are simply too few jobs for the Government's argument to hold
