God rest you, dear @NorthDakotaJane.
I am very sad to report that the wonderful Catholic poet Jane Greer @NorthDakotaJane has died. Please keep her soul, her family and her husband Jim in your prayers.
Tom Lehrer should be remembered by his own words, namely “If, after hearing my songs, just one human being is inspired to say something nasty to a friend, or perhaps to strike a loved one, it will all have been worth the while.”
Cardinal Sarah today strongly condemned French push for euthanasia: “Do not desecrate France with your barbaric and inhuman laws that advocate death when God wants life. Do not desecrate France because it is a holy land, a land reserved for God.” fr.aleteia.org/2025/07/26/loi…
Pope Leo has assigned Cardinal Sarah as his papal envoy for the celebrations in the Diocese of Vannes to mark the 400th anniversary of the apparition of St Anne, this July 25 & 26 Details via @HolySeePress today
What a great first day at the Josef Pieper Prize award ceremony in Münster for @BishopBarron . Barron is a worthy winner because he has done more than almost anyone else to make the rich Catholic intellectual heritage and tradition of Catholic thought fruitful for a whole new…
Three notable professors terminated in a week looks like an intentional purge to me.
My Sacred Heart Major Seminary teaching contract was terminated by Abp. Weisenburger this week. I have retained counsel. Except to offer my prayers for those affected by this news and to ask for theirs in return, I have no further comment at this time. Prof. Edward Peters
My daughter is the first child in our family to be baptized Catholic in over 400 years. The last Catholic in the family, Bl. Nicholas Garlick, was martyred under Queen Elizabeth in 1588. Happy feast day of Bl. Nicholas Garlick!
If you are the manager who is managing the decline, there's a lot of money to be made.
Current paradigm reg the weak and vulnerable isn't to really mend their vulnerabilities, but to "manage" it (meaning squeezing as much money out of it as possible)
If you can attend/participate please do. I will be at a wedding and unavailable.
This Saturday, July 26 4-6pm PST, I am hosting a Zoom to honor Jane Greer by reading her poems. Let me know if you would like the Zoom link and if you would like to read. I understand not everyone can be present the entire time, so will make a schedule with poems and readers.
I also remember when the I-35 bridge in Minneapolis collapsed, and its replacement was built on budget, ahead of time, and with *relevant* cool new tech. It makes me sad to see the current MN government sabotaging their strengths.
Honestly, MN used to be - and could be again - pretty great. The water is amazing. The Mississippi starts here and flows pretty clean through the state. If you've never seen a great lake, you're in for an awesome experience - like a cold ocean. The trees are lovely. Our parks are…
I remember when this kind of safetyism was unthinkable.
Last night, the Minneapolis Aquatennial parade (a long, historic tradition) was canceled due to "dangerous weather." It was 86-ish and humid with an occasional sprinkle. These people are insane.
Rest in Peace, Jane Greer (known as @NorthDakotaJane in these parts). She was one of the great formalists of her generation.
Also true for creativity. We're not God, so we don't create ex nihilo; rather, we perceive and reveal new connections/patterns from what we know/have experienced.
Memorizing facts boosts memory which does make you smarter because intelligence is largely about making connections between ideas or concepts or facts and the more you have ready at hand in your brain (as opposed to being able to look them up which creates friction) the more…
Critical thinking is a side effect of subject mastery.

This is the first time I recall someone writing about appealing to the angel of your diocese. Certainly we know from Revelation that each church has them. Perhaps we need to make more appeals to the church angels especially if our diocese particularly needs their help.
Jane’s last published work.
Some lit journals pay nothing. Today, appreciatively, I received a modest check from @utulsa for this poem, which appeared in @NimrodJournal last month. Editor-in-chief @BorisDralyuk and his excellent young staff put out a first-class journal that respects the folks it publishes.
