Modeling brains to understand ourselves and the world. Investigator at the Allen Institute. Book: https://www.amazon.com/Age-Cindy-Brain-ebook/dp/B0CD2S6MZ4.
My second book, Lessons of History, is published, both as a paperback and as an electronic version: amazon.com/Lessons-Histor… It is about adventures in the past, and it's looking good together with the first one, which is about the future - Age of Cindy: amazon.com/Age-Cindy-Brai…

Does anyone know what this is? Some kind of a gastropod? Found it at a beach on Puget Sound (the photo shows views from the top and from the bottom).

Cool updates in our newsletter: 📺 3D neuronal visualization in VND linked to Python notebooks via zmq 🧠 Stabilized Supralinear Networks implemented in BMTK 📢 Upcoming presentations at CNS*2025 and JNS by @beaherrera and @shixnya See more and subscribe: t.e2ma.net/message/3njjhi…

Nice update @neuralink. Unsurprisingly, it resonates. Re. @elonmusk's point about consciousness from physics, see doi.org/10.3390/e24111… And generally it all looks like Age of Cindy chapters 1-2. Maybe soon it will get into chapter 3, hope in a good way. amazon.com/Age-Cindy-Brai…

Episode #28 in #TheoreticalNeurosciencePodcast: On whole-cell modeling of bacteria – with Markus Covert @MarkusCovertLab theoreticalneuroscience.no/thn28 In 2020 a model of E. coli with 10000 equations and 19000 parameters was presented by the guest. How are such models made?
A junco bird decided to raise some chicks on my porch. It made a nest on a little fir tree that we keep in a pot and use as a Christmas tree every winter.

A beautiful ADVERSARIAL COLLABORATION testing GNW and IIT theories of consciousness. Data challenge both theories (though I don't agree IIT predicts that posterior cortex is somehow special - we don't know enough to claim so). More work remains to be done! doi.org/10.1038/s41586…
At a recent recital with my son, at the piano. I'm playing balalaika.
Congratulations to @alfairhall on being elected to @theNAsciences! Dr. Fairhall is a Professor at @UW, Director of the @uwcnc, and a member of the @AllenInstitute for Neural Dynamics Scientific Advisory Council.
This mustard plant has been blooming in my yard the whole winter and spring. I never knew that mustard flowers are so fragrant. They have a pleasant and calming aroma, very gentle and sweet!

doi.org/10.1126/scienc… On the well-populated island of Oahu lives a predating caterpillar that steals lunch from spiders using camouflage made of insect prey body parts. Nature is amazing. 🐛🕷🦋
The brain as it's never been seen before. Scientists have created the largest wiring diagram and functional map of a mammal brain to date. @princetonneuro @JHUAPL @UWGradSchool @bcmfromthelabs @unigoettingen
How does the brain work? Scientists are closer to the answer with the largest wiring diagram and functional map of a mammalian brain to date. 🧵
You can see the lovely cherry blossoms @UW. So pretty. Or, you can check out the suburbs, where orchards used to be. There are still plenty of cherries and other trees. No crowds, and the blossoms are beautiful. Or, you can enjoy both places! #uwcherryblossoms
