This preprint is now an official, peer-reviewed paper 🥳 Microscopic phage adsorption assay: High-throughput quantification of virus particle attachment to host bacterial cells pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn… Tweetorial at the other place: bsky.app/profile/did:pl…
Finally, the preprint on my postdoc work from the past 3 years! With mentorship from @PaulTurnerLab and @EmonetLab, I developed a microscopic technique to measure attachment of viruses #phages to bacterial cells @YalePhage @QbioYale . biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Why use a SHOTGUN when the SITUation can be RESEOLVED with a SPATIAL op? The advances in sequencing technologies are absolutely amazing! 🤩
Unveiling Expansion in situ genome sequencing: a revolutionary leap in spatial genomics! ExIGS enables simultaneous nanoscale mapping of gDNA and proteins in single cells. It's been an incredible journey co-leading this work with @z_chiang , @CarolineComenho , @JD_Buenrostro
Another step forward towards the post-plaque era! Great work helping to drag the phage field into the 21st Century. Many core methodologies we use to study phages haven't changed since they were invented almost 100 years ago

.@AntaniJo (@Yale) etal developed a microscopy-based technique to measure #phage attachment to bacterial cells. This method provides an alternative to the century-old Phage Adsorption Assay. Feel free to reach out with any questions: [email protected]. buff.ly/4fd1PnD
💀 According to our survey, over 60% of @Yale #postdocs are receiving compensation below the 2024 minimum! The second one was a trick question! 💀A staggering 85% of @Yale #postdocs are dissatisfied with their compensation. @yaledailynews
Repeat after me: Virus traits are important drivers of community dynamics. Cool preprint showing that a cocktail of two phages with similar adsorption rates but different latent periods essentially has the same effect as a single phage (one with the shorter latent period).
🎉Our preprint illustrates the integration of experimental and computational approaches to study phage combinations for cocktail optimization. @KiranKondabagil
Having lots of Pf phage, a phage that partners with Pseudomonas to build biofilms, in your sputum leads to a decline in lung function over time in people with cystic fibrosis. Congrats to @ebburgenerMD, @PRSecor and Carlos Milla on this lovely work. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

As an international postdoc, you can't get grants which are a sign of competence for faculty jobs. And good luck if you were born in India. You will never get a green card so no industry career for you. You will always be a postdoc.

Preprint alert 🚨! I present you the second and final manuscript on the BASEL phages! 36 new deeply characterized phages from viral groups that were so far mostly terra incognita - and all infect the E. coli K12 lab strain with easy tricks. 1/12 tinyurl.com/3xdt65f5
It took more than a DECADE... but finally it’s published!!! It started as a CRAZY idea but after tons of hard work we built it: We hijacked the endogenous secretion systems of Toxoplasma gondii, a brain parasite, to deliver active proteins to neurons 👇 nature.com/articles/s4156…
Please come check out my talk tomorrow, where I’ll talk about some of the early results from my evolution experiment. See you there! #Evol2024
@NoahHoupt (Sat, 2:45-3PM, 524B) is discussing his 1,000-generation evolution experiment exploring how niche construction impacts long-term evolutionary dynamics. Prelim results demonstrate the rapid evolution of adaptive niche construction driven by a surprising mechanism 😱.
Super excited to share my postdoc work on Monday at #Evol2024! Come hear about the role of a prophage in the thermal eco evo of a strain I collected in the Long Island Sound 🔥🧫🌊
Postdoc @_cathyhernandez (Mon, 10:15-10:30AM, 516E) will present her work showing how the thermal ecology and evolution of a marine bacterium is shaped by the temperature-dependence of an integrated phage 🌊.
Hey #Evol2024! Interested in the evolutionary ecology of host-parasite interactions? Come check out the presentations by my amazing trainees, listed below! I'll give a brief preview of each presentation below 🧵
