We start by acknowledging a big whiff on our part. But then dig into how the Epstein mess plays out, the political impact of OBBB, and @jmart’s take how midterms will go. And of course talk approps/shutdown. open.spotify.com/episode/3tsuoq…
The pod is graced by a legend this morning. The great @jmart of @politico joins us to take stock of both parties six months into Trump 2.0. W/@Annalyse_Keller open.spotify.com/episode/3tsuoq…
On today's ep, @jmart joins to give his thoughts on the first 6 months of Trump + what issues will actually matter ahead of midterm elections! Plus we chat about upcoming funding challenges & if Thune keeps the Senate around in August. w/ @BrendanBuck open.spotify.com/episode/3tsuoq…
CR coming! We knew it would happen anyway but pretty much a done deal now
Rep Aderholt, the House cardinal for the Labor-HHS funding bill, says his subcommittee markup won’t be until September. This all but makes a CR official. Government funding runs out Sept 30. House GOP saving most complicated bill for the end.
This was a fun chat!
🚨 Congress faces a messy funding fight in a little over two months and vibes feel like we are in shutdown territory. @ktullymcmanus of @politico offers a great primer on the appropriations state of play and of course we talk rescissions. w/@BrendanBuck open.spotify.com/episode/41VC6e…

16 mo is a long time. Remember when Trump's impeachment trial was going to be the defining issue of the 2020 elections? COVID changed everything & then the battle over who would replace RBG took front and center 45 days out. No doubt OBBB will be litigated, but a lot can happen.
The midterm election is 16 months away but the battle lines are drawn: Both parties agree that Trump's megabill will be THE defining issue of the 2026 election. Our latest reporting on how Democrats and Republicans are strategizing around it. nbcnews.com/politics/2026-…
This was a great chat, and I only felt like @BrendanBuck wanted to kill me once or twice. Really brought me back.
We have @MEPFuller on the pod, long-time chronicler of the Freedom Caucus, for a deep dive on the HFC--how their influence has changed over the years & where they go from here. And we offer thoughts on reconciliation "winners and losers." w/ @BrendanBuck open.spotify.com/episode/4NJB30…

We have such a good one today. A long convo with @NOTUSreports’s @MEPFuller, the original Freedom Caucus reporter, on what HFC was, what it is today, and its future in Trump’s party. Really good stuff and somewhat cathartic for me. W/@Annalyse_Keller open.spotify.com/episode/4NJB30…

The Snack Wrap is back at McDonald's nationwide in roughly 72 hours. It will be priced at $2.99.
... "The one big bill got hard to understand and manage,” @LindseyGrahamSC told us. “There are many provisions in this bill that nobody is really talking about,” @lisamurkowski says. Rs say individual parts are popular .... just like Dems said. washingtonpost.com/politics/2025/…
So Republicans know their problem: This bill is too big to fail, and probably too big to understand. Like Biden's BBB/IRA, Trump's TCJA & Obama's ACA, voters don't follow "big" bills. Whether they're "bold & transformational" (Pelosi's words) or "beautiful" (Trump). ...
FWIW, this is now officially the longest vote in modern congressional history per @KyleAlexStewart
Rep. Steve Womack has been presiding over the House floor since the start of this vote series at 11:45am — over NINE hours ago. He’s only had one bathroom break. I’m told he is very very bored and singing the Eric Carmen song “ALL BY MYSELF” to himself.
"Please don't pass the bill I just voted for" is one of the most maddening recurring features of Congress
MURKOWSKI tells reporters she wants the House to send OBBB back to the Senate to continue the work. She voted for it. "My hope is that the House is gonna look at this and recognize that we're not there yet," Murkowski said
Elegant fix in that it gets you to 50 (51?) while making Johnson's job easier with the mods. Bring in Trump as the closer on the HFC types.
News- Senate GOP leaders have doubled the size of rural hospital fund in their wrap-around amendment, per draft obtained by CNN Rural hospital fund is now **$50 billion,** to be doled out starting next year through 2030. It was previously $25B. (Collins wanted $100B!)
