For @thebafflermag, I wrote about how the West and Israel mobilize rape in pursuit of empire, and how feminism fails those it professes to care about -- people subject to state sanctioned sexual violence -- in its selective neglect of Palestinian victims. thebaffler.com/latest/grist-o…
these same children who are starving to death right before our eyes tried holding press conferences begging us to save them in November 2023 and the world did nothing. I’ll genuinely never get over having to write these sentences as long as I live….the heart atrophies.
New statement from the ~80 students who have been suspended or expelled from Columbia for their participation in the Basel al-Araj Popular University: "Columbia did not 'capitulate' to the Trump administration—it colluded without an ounce of hesitation."
Don’t let this get lost in the noise: @Columbia just inked a deal with the federal government to trigger ICE abduction when an international student gets arrested for any reason.
Deeply concerning part of Columbia's capitulation to Trump: Foreign students arrested at protests can now be detained by ICE regardless of whether university admin's punish them. Significant escalation of efforts to chill speech & protest activity by non-citizen students.
Because that’s how famine works, genius. Children starve first — their bodies are more vulnerable to malnutrition, their needs urgent. Every famine, from Yemen to Somalia, follows this pattern. All feeding centre I’ve ever visited are always full of children.
I see so many photos of "starving children" from Gaza, but not a single photo of a starving adult. This is the first famine in history where only children are starving, while many adults are overweight (based on published photos from Gaza). How could it be? 🤔
.@Columbia sacrificed 70+ students on the altar of Donald Trump. Every figure and institution that fanned the flames of the antisemitism hysteria made this possible. You are all collaborators.
fuck you fuck you fuck you. the women of gaza are more heroic than you could ever dream of you fucking pig
Benjamin Netanyahu bashes “Women for Gaza”: “You know what the women in Gaza are? They are property, they are nothing. They have no rights. They are completely subjugated.” He’s 100% correct.
We screamed for two years that Israel is a genocidal state. For two years, politicians, & the media branded us as anti-semitic terrorist supporters. And now that genocidal state is starving Gaza to death. Never forgive. Never forget.
Gaza isn’t just starving — it’s being STARVED. There’s enough food for them at the borders, Israel just isn’t letting it in.
The New York Times is an active participant in genocide. Its crimes must never be forgotten or forgiven.
They let a genocide scholar write one op ed. Now they’re back on script.
I’ll never forget how people rushed to relentlessly deny that Israel attacked al Shifa hospital almost two years ago. It had to be a misfire, had to be an accident, rocket rebound. Now, Israelis have destroyed every hospital, abduct and torture medical personell, and cause famine
Under international criminal law, media institutions can be held liable for complicity by omission, which includes failing to accurately report on the scale and nature of atrocities, or focusing on narratives that distract from the reality of the violence.
We gave a close read to the new 80-page Israeli report on 10/7 sexual violence. What we found is that rather than present new evidence, it spends most of its time arguing that the current evidentiary standards are actually too rigorous. Incredible turn to take. Some excerpts:
I do NOT deplore the violence on both sides. I support the armed struggle for liberation waged by a people whose choice is to fight or be disposed and exterminated.
columbia just suspended 80 students at once ranging from 1-3 year long suspensions & barnard hasn’t even released their sanctions yet. they have also been systematically targeting students by tripling tuition or removing our financial aid altogether w/ no explanation
BREAKING: Columbia University has announced mass sanctions on nearly 80 pro-Palestine protesters — they have been suspended for 1 to 3 years or expelled from Columbia for joining a protest at the university's Butler Library in May this year, according to Columbia University…
On July 11, I asked Patrick Kingsley, the New York Times’ Jerusalem bureau chief, whether the paper was going to cover the news of a beheaded fetus killed by an Israeli airstrike in Shati Camp alongside his parents and 3-year-old sister, on July 9. He thanked me for the…
