Our thoughts are with our @CTGuild siblings who are once again falling prey to the vultures at Alden Global Capital.
Today, @chicagotribune laid off five guild staff members in a roughly 10% cut to our newsroom. These layoffs underscore a sad but unsurprising failure of leadership by Alden Global Capital, our hedge fund owner, and local management.
We at @CTGuild are devastated today by the company's unexplained, unnecessary, disrespectful and stupid decision to lay off five guild colleagues. The only reason is greed. These brilliant people deserve so much better than better. Chicago deserves better too.

Alden and management have given no meaningful answers on what is happening or why. They've rejected every attempt to make a buyout better. The confusion they are creating hurts people. We deserve better, and our readers deserve better. We'll keep fighting for it.
