In a new blog, Benjamin Bond of @KingsCollegeLon considers cannabis & psychosis. Drawing on his new @TheCJPsych paper, he argues that "the risk of developing a psychotic disorder declines following cannabis cessation..." @SAGEPublishers @JLipowski sagepub.com/explore-our-co…
Dr Edward Chesney of King’s College London warns decriminalisation could increase teenage cannabis use — which is likely a causal factor in developing schizophrenia. 'A third of psychosis patients used cannabis at onset.'
Since cannabis legalization 🍃, the incidence of schizophrenia in Canada 🇨🇦 has increased from just 53.5 to a whopping 53.3 cases per 100 000. 🚀📈 Great paper, shame about the clickbait. Let's see what happens to the Psychosis NOS cases.
Since legalization, new schizophrenia cases linked to heavy cannabis use have tripled. 🧵1/9
A really surprising result which points to the CBD picture in psychosis being a bit more complicated than we thought
CBD is good right? Errr maybe not... In this RCT, I gave high doses of THC 🌿 to people with schizophrenia. Pre-treatment with CBD did not reduce the effects... but doubled them! 🤯 Sometimes I'm not sure that science is for me 🤡.
🚨New paper🚨 In the biggest placebo controlled RCT to date in people with schizophrenia who receive inhaled THC (20/40/60mg), oral CBD (1000mg) worsened psychotic symptoms and cognition. Heroic work by study lead @ed_chesney 💪

Enjoyed presenting @SOBP #SOBP2025 on a #cannabis symposium organised by Drs E Kroon and J Cousijn. I presented 4-year longitudinal CannTeen data - teenagers who quit cannabis have reduced psychotic-like symptoms, and teens are more sensitive to the impact of frequent use on CUD.
Despite cannabis policy directly affecting how the public interacts with #cannabis products, we have very little data on the public health implications of policies that have been instated over the past few decades. 🎧 Listen to the discussion here: podcast.publichealth.jhu.edu/853-the-hazy-w…
