Kariko's publishing record is not, IN ANY WAY, a rebuke of our impact-obsessed publishing system. Only in the HHMI Comic Universe are these Kariko papers low impact. In the real world this is a high prestige, difficult to achieve publishing record. And you can see if you read…
Reminder that our obsession with journal names as a lazy proxy for "impact" is new. Here are the key papers that led to the mRNA vaccine @NobelPrize for Karikó and Weissman Karikó et al. Immunity 23, 165–175 (2005) Karikó et al. Mol Ther 16, 1833–1840 (2008) Anderson et al.…
Not sure these are great examples (as pointed out by others too). Immunity has an IF in the 30s/40s and the others are in the 10-20 range! I agree with the sentiment of the tweet, but treating everything below CNS as low impact is also part of the problem...
How does the brain solve the problem of consolidating new information without interference with prior knowledge? In our recent paper we propose that sleep microstructure and hippocampal replay may offer a solution. Check this thread from first author and super start @hongyu_chang
SEEING THROUGH YOUR EYES 👁️: Excited to share our new paper (which is out now!!) with Wenbo Tang, @annabellaWulf, @ThokozileNyasu, @Madisonewolf, @antferrui @azayhara : we discovered a novel sleep microstructure that promotes memory replay! nature.com/articles/s4158… 🧵 1/12👇
