Great day @MacArthur1880 today. We partnered w/Hampton Roads Naval Museum to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Leyte Gulf and to examine its role in the liberation of the Philippines.

Thank you to the Peninsula Korean-American Association and the Hampton Roads The Korean Veterans Chapter for a beautiful wreath laying today on the 75th anniversary of the start of the Korean War.

81 years ago today, Allied troops landed at Normandy to begin the liberation of Northern Europe. At great cost - mainly very young men - they gained an important foothold on the continent and helped doom the Third Reich.

The MacArthur Memorial will open a new special exhibit in August 2025. More details to follow!
MacArthur makes the public promise shortly after an aide gives him the devastating news that a promised buildup of American forces in Australia has yet to occur. In that moment, with no relief army, a return is nearly impossible.
#Onthisday in 1942, from Terowie, Australia, General MacArthur promises: "I shall return."
General MacArthur's son, Arthur MacArthur IV, has issued a statement to mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Manila and to acknowledge the commemoration of this anniversary today at the Manila American Cemetery.

General MacArthur's public statement on the death of General Patton. MacArthur described Patton as a “gallant and romantic soldier of unquestioned greatness.”

Participation in World War I was complicated for Mississippi - both politically and socially. The memory of the American Civil War was a factor in this. Enjoyed exploring this topic. Thanks for the suggestion @AwkwardLive.

We know General MacArthur and other generals had presidential ambitions. What about WWII Pacific Theater US Navy admirals? Who would have made a good POTUS?
This will always be a classic.

OCT 14, 1890: Eisenhower is born. 🥳 He served under MacArthur during the 1930s. They were two very different men, but in Eisenhower's efficiency report, MacArthur rated him “superior” and recommended he be “immediately”promoted to general if war broke out.

Great 🧵👇
Before he was a leader, Napoleon Bonaparte was a reader. He read *everything* -- romances, plays, histories, myths. A thread of (some of) Napoleon's favorite works of literature. 🧵👇 (Inspired by "Napoleon's Library" by Louis Sarkozy - an interesting book, I recommend it).
Time machine question! If you could travel back in time to attend one of MacArthur's most famous speeches, which one would you choose to witness?
