A Doctor Who podcast Too Broad & Too Deep for TV...covering the Virgin New Adventures! Hosted by @_anthonycarroll & Alasdair Shaw 📖 🏴
🚨 New episode 🚨 Here's out latest episode on the prolific Neil Penswick novel The Pit. On all good podcasting apps 👇 toobroadtoodeeppod.podbean.com/e/the-pit/

The title has made it an easy whipping boy for fans; calling a weak novel "The Pit" makes it too easy! Some interesting ideas which each stand on their own, but they don't really gel together, and the writing is not the best. Not great, but there are worse out there. 1/2
My first visit to the Something Who bunker! This was loads of fun to record, thank you @Richard1J1Smith for having me along!
Just out, join @gswrites, @brickpandorica, @Richard1J1Smith and honoured guest @trenowden as we chat about #DoctorWho missing and recently animated story The Savages, paired next time with New Earth. It's the usual lively mix of opinions. somethingwho.podbean.com/e/episode-113-…
All opinions are based on a 20 year old me reading it 20 ish years ago but I remember really enjoying it - I remember political allegories and frustrations and I *really* remember the ending which haunted me for years. I can’t believe that we never went back to tidy up that mess.
A wonderfully camp time discussing this slice of 60s Who, The Plotters! A question we have at the end is - who from the Carry On films would you cast to star in an adaption of this in their style? Who'd have which role? 👀
Fie! A plot! Fireworks and burning Catholics! The Doctor, Ian, Barbara and Victor - hoho! - I mean to say Vicki are caught up in the machinations and groin stirrings of King James! @2Broad2DeepPod podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/a-h…
John returns to the bookclub to discuss the much celebrated Blood Heat only to find that the memory cheats and fatalism is a little out of fashion… podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/a-h…
The humidity the past few weeks might have felt like we've been living in a pit, but we'll be doing our recording soon on *The* Pit (the definite article, you might say) 🏜 What are your thoughts on Neil Penswick's only VNA? #DoctorWho

And since I missed your call for feedback on The Highest Science, I'll just say that it's my favourite NA, with some wonderful Dr Who ideas, told in a fun way. But clearly you didn't agree! 😂
That said, for a novel many people say IS the worst, it's impressive how much the events of The Pit are referenced in many, many NAs for years after this. So not well written, but in NA terms quite significant. 2/2
Too many ideas. Some of them are quite good - the whole Seven Galaxies business. But it gets bogged down in subplots about grizzled space cops and androids. It’s an example of the sort of wild First Novel Virgin would let through. I wonder if his next one would have been better.
Hamster Book Club - Dalek by Robert Shearman (featuring @2Broad2DeepPod) What happens when a Scot and an Englishman watch, listen and read to the same story? A grand time is had by both! The most unique Target novel? The darkest? podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/a-h…

¡Qué bueno! Was wonderful to be on the Hamster Book Club covering History 101 - one of the unsung greats of the EDAs 💚 🇪🇸
Hamster Book Club - History 101. A dense, dramatic, informative book that has somehow fallen under the radar thanks to the big hitters around it. Anthony from @2Broad2DeepPod is here to redress that... podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/a-h…
Placed 18th out of 61 in #DoctorWhoVNARanking I think it is the first book that feels like a standalone novel with a conventional narrative. Paved the way for some more accomplished books from the same author
In the next few weeks, we'll be recording our next episode, on The Highest Science 🔬 What are your thoughts on this book? 👀
