Thrilled to share the latest work from my PhD in the @BizarMd group! This has been a dream MD/PhD project, culminating in data that has already enabled access to precision therapy for a patient. Tweetorial below:
Excited to share a new paper: tinyurl.com/49u5e6by @CellCellPress: a framework to accelerate variant classification, diagnosis & treatment of immune disorders & genetic disorders more broadly. Led by superstar, juggernaut & future dermatologist @zwalsh96
We validated screen results and phenotypes using T cells from two APDS patients with variants mapping to structural GOF hotspots flagged by our screen, directly linking screen data to real disease.
Had a wonderful experience presenting our work developing a scalable variant classification approach for inborn errors of immunity at @JointMeeting @the_asci @A_P_S_A last week! And very grateful to have received a travel award to support my attendance.

For this week’s #MRFResearchWednesday, we’re spotlighting 2025 Medical Student Grant Awardee @Zwalsh96 of @ColumbiaMed, working in the Izar Lab, with @BizarMd. His project, “Leveraging T Cell Genetic Variants to Enhance Melanoma Immunotherapies,” explores new ways to improve…
Scalable generation and functional classification of genetic variants in inborn errors of immunity to accelerate clinical diagnosis and treatment: Cell cell.com/cell/fulltext/… Thrilled to see this transformative paper published- and so sad that its NIH funds are frozen!

Excited to be presenting more of our scalable variant classification work tomorrow at @ImmunologyAAI #IMMUNOLOGY2025. Check it out if you are interested in #CRISPR base editing, forward genetic screening, or immunogenetics! My talk starts at 8:45 AM tomorrow (May 5) in Room 312!

Very excited to have received the notice of award for my F30 MD/PhD fellowship from the NCI today! Much thanks to my mentor @BizarMd and excited to continue our work at the nexus of cell therapy and genome engineering

Happy to share our manuscript “Single-cell and spatial genomic landscape of non-small cell lung cancer brain metastases” published in @NatureMedicine. Congrats @lcaprio412. Thank you @BizarMd. nature.com/articles/s4159…

Pleased to share that our recently published work on CRISPR base editing in primary human T cells has been featured in @nyphospital Advances! Check out this article, where my mentor @BizarMd and I were interviewed about our work: nyp.org/advances/artic…
Thrilled, and also in a bit of disbelief, to see our paper featured on the cover of @ScienceMagazine! "Finding Neo" wasn't easy, but we just kept swimming (read: stared at a sequence of DNA) until the Eureka moment hit.
The central dogma of molecular biology states that genetic information flows from DNA and RNA to protein, with reverse transcription converting RNA to DNA. In the pursuit of understanding how bacteria defend themselves from viral infection, two groups have found alternative…
