How does a Texas drought end? Unfortunately by another devastating flood. We went from an extreme and exceptional drought to drought-free conditions in just a few weeks. Only parts of Hays and Caldwell county are still under a moderate drought.

All floodgates are closed.
Floodgates at all dams along the Highland Lakes are now closed. Water continues to flow over the spillway at Inks Dam, which does not have any floodgates. LCRA expects to conclude flood operations at the dams today (7/16).
Lake Buchanan is full and Lake Travis is 8 feet away.
All floodgates have been closed at Buchanan Dam. Only 1 floodgate is partially open at Wirtz Dam and Starcke Dam.

Before and after…Lake Travis has taken on a different look lately after the historic floods in the Hill Country. Over 200 billion gallons of water have gone into our lakes. My friend Gil Dominy sent me photos of what it looked like for 6 years on Lake Travis but now it is full.
This gives you an idea how much water fell from the sky in the last two weeks.
