Interesting vowels in this Afghan Persian song. Mir Maftun has the majhūl vowel [ē] in words like bēmār and dēwāna, but has a clearly maʿrūf [ī] in labrīz (not labrēz as I'd expect). The first vowel in dunyā is also interesting, sounds very fronted to me, almost like [ɪ].

Kerala is typically thought of as connected to Arabic via the Indian Ocean but not to the Persianate world further north, so I'm intrigued by the mention of this Arabi-Malayalam press printing "other cultural forms of Persian tales" in the early 1880s.
Blog post by Mohammed Khaleel on early Arabi-Malayalam lithographed books printed in Kerala in the 1870s-1880s in the @britishlibrary collection - interesting parallels with early Malay lithographic printing from Singapore blogs.bl.uk/asian-and-afri…
In Turkish armut "pear" 🍐 also connotes a fool or a sucker. I wonder what makes this particular fruit stupid.
It's becoming easier to find a climate denier among climate scientists than a genocide-denier among genocide scholars. Extremely important piece in the NY Times -->
