A cool down is incoming!!! A storm that is currently developing along the Alaskan Coast will slowly slide south along the Canadian Coast towards California this weekend, arriving to the Bay Area Monday. Temperatures will be over 5-10° below average inland all next week. @KPIXtv
It's been a chilly summer across the Bay Area...but want to know when warmer weather will arrive?! Long range models are showing likely above average temperatures returning the first full week of August. It shouldn't be a huge heat wave, just a return to warmer highs! @KPIXtv
This July in San Francisco is officially tied for the #1 most rainy days and 8th wettest on record!!! SF had measurable rainfall for 5 days this month (including today), totaling 0.08". Wet conditions make it harder for fires to spark - good news for wildfire season. @KPIXtv
A pattern shift begins today - 80s will return across the inland communities. It still won't be above average, just a return to more seasonable weather. The coast won't be feeling much of the warm up, but there will be a little more sunshine (especially later this week)! @KPIXtv
It's been a windier than normal summer across the Bay Area, with places from San Jose to San Francisco to Napa in the top ten windiest years on record. But it's not just this year - in recent decades it's very apparent that wind gusts have continued to increase. @KPIXtv
It's been a chilly summer in San Francisco...but did you know there's technically been measurable rainfall during the driest month of the year?! Downtown SF has observed rain for 4 days of the past 7 (including this morning). It's not a lot, but it's better than normal! @KPIXtv
San Francisco averages the coolest summertime highs out of any major city in the US, but this year has been exceptionally chilly! There's been 14 70°+ days this year - normally there's 14 70°+ days just in the first half of summer. Only two days this season have been 70°+ @KPIXtv
Caught a beautiful shot of some crepuscular rays shining over parts of San Francisco this evening...after very rare measurable July RAIN the past couple days across the Bay!! We normally observe 0.01" in SF throughout the month of July, so this was definitely different! @KPIXtv
Get out and enjoy your Sunday Funday because big weather changes are on the way! Highs will be a couple degrees cooler than yesterday inland as a storm approaches...but even cooler, windier, and cloudier weather will arrive tomorrow and continue Tuesday. @KPIXtv
When you think of the beach, do you think of sunshine and warm weather? Well, don't expect that in the Bay Area...foggy/cool along the coast with sunshine/warmth inland. Calm winds = good hot air ballooning! Enjoy this weekend before a cool down arrives into next week. @KPIXtv
Highs temperatures will be a few degrees warmer than yesterday inland, but still a few degrees below average for mid July. This weekend will stay relatively seasonable before a cool down and windier weather arrives starting early next week. Enjoy comfortable weekend!
I had the BEST time with our Furever Friday guest Krypto (look familiar, Superman fans?!) this morning on @KPIXtv 🥰 All he wanted to do was to play the entire time, and I was happy to oblige! This is your sign that even Superdogs need to be rescued too - go to the @sfspca today!
Summer in San Francisco is normally chilly...but this is our coolest start to summer in over 40 years! Downtown SF has only observed two 70°+ days since June 1st - normally there's 10. Long range models point towards cooler highs sticking around through the end of July. @KPIXtv
Flash flooding threats continue for a large portion of the US. There are currently multiple Flash Flood Warnings in effect across NC/VA, the potential for tropical development bringing heavy rain to FL, and severe storms bringing heavy rain across the North Central US. @KPIXtv
The global climate is warming - that is a fact. But in San Francisco, summer is actually the slowest warming season of the year. Still, downtown is 2.2° warmer than the 1970s, which means you can expect nearly a month more warmer summer days in the years to come...@KPIXtv
Not only did our cameras catch a BEAutiful sunrise from the top of Black Mountain, but you can clearly see an inversion layer over the Santa Clara Valley. This happens warmer air sits above a layer of cooler air, creating a lid that traps smog/pollutants underneath it. @KPIXtv
Any outdoor plans today?! If you're heading to the coast, expect the foggy conditions to stick around...or take a short drive inland to see more sunshine and warmer weather! Luckily it won't be too hot for NASCAR's only trip to CA - the Toyota/Save Mart 350 in Sonoma! @KPIXtv
Have you noticed more vibrant sunrises/sunsets the past couple days across the Bay Area? It's actually the wildfire smoke from Northern California. Luckily it's not going to lower air quality an worse than moderate for us, and drift away with onshore winds early next week.
A really cool view from the top of @salesforce this morning as the camera sat between the sun and fog...have you seen a glory?! It's a series of concentric rings, often appearing as a circular rainbow, caused by the backward scattering of sunlight by water droplets! @KPIXtv
There wasn't just one, but THREE kitty cats joining us for Furever Friday @KPIXtv...and since it's officially kitten season (did you know that was a thing?!) it's the purrrfect time to adopt! And I got one curious kitten...it jumped out of my arms in the middle of the interview!
