🎉 Exciting Announcement: New Paper!
In a recent study @waynedj & @MarcelloVichi examined the relationship between Antarctic sea ice rotation and atmospheric conditions. Read a summary of their findings: crices-h2020.eu/news/antarctic…

🧵The Arctic and Antarctic are warming faster than the rest of the world, with the Arctic facing reduced sea ice, thawing permafrost, increased wildfires, and ecosystem shifts, while Antarctica sees rapid ice sheet melt & disruptions to marine ecosystems.

Grateful for an incredible week at the SANAP Symposium! Engaging discussions, inspiring presentations, and connecting with brilliant minds in polar research. Thanks to everyone who made it unforgettable! @MARIS_UCT #SANAP2023 #AntarcticaDay
The @MARIS_UCT Sea Ice Team has had an incredible time sharing and learning from the SANAP community at the #SANAP2023 Symposium this week! Thank you @StellenboschUni Team for doing such a great job at hosting the symposium this year! @Antarcticlegacy Happy Antarctica Day 🎉
🚨HOT OFF THE PRESS🚨 The State of the Cryosphere 2023 report confirms even 2°C warming will trigger irreversible loss to ice sheets, glaciers, snow, sea ice, permafrost, and polar oceans with disastrous consequences for society and nature 🧵 Read here: iccinet.org/statecryo23/
Halfway there! Fighting for better understanding of the rapid changes in the #arctic and #Antarctica #seaice Thank you all for your brilliant talks and posters at #CRiceSWeek in #Grenoble !
Several @MARIS_UCT posters on display at the annual @CRiceS_H2020 meeting this past week in Grenoble, France 🇿🇦🇫🇷 This project focuses on improving model predictions of the role of polar processes in the climate system that consists of oceans, ice & snow cover & the atmosphere.
New JOG paper! "Physical and morphological properties of first-year Antarctic sea ice in the spring marginal ice zone of the Atlantic-Indian sector” by S Johnson, R Audh, W de Jager, B Matlakala, M Vichi, A Womack, T Rampai -> doi.org/10.1017/jog.20… @UCT_Research @MARIS_UCT
Excited to present our new @Nature paper! Our findings show that an ice sheet retreated at up to 600 m/day at the end of the last Ice Age. Read for free here: rdcu.be/c9eZ4 @frazer_christie @sasha_montelli @JEGlaciers @NCLPhysGeog 1/6
Really grateful to be able to attend #IICWGDA11 in beautiful Oslo this week! 🇳🇴 Thank you to the organizers and participants for bringing so much sea ice knowledge into one room. Lots of new ideas to take home and think about... ❄ @MARIS_UCT @CRiceS_H2020 @OceanographyUct
