@UMneurosurgery resident. Pediatric neurosurgery - spinal, leptomeningeal and CSF diseases, and collaborations in Latin America 🇧🇴 🇨🇱 🇵🇾.
A while coming, our NIH R25-funded work on GBM LMD was published exposing the TLR-4 pathway as relevant, and more importantly for me, lays foundations for active cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) exchange studies to make clinical change. @AshishHShah4

Congrats @graffeo and Spencer for getting this primer for evidence based medicine in the cerebrovascular neurosurgery space. Hoping to continue to raise the bar which remains one of our key mantras. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39168862/

In pediatric spine surgery, pain control is very important and continues to advance - we review how pain management for selective dorsal rhizotomy in pediatric patients continue to shift from single intrathecal opioids to multimodal non-opioid regimens. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39080014/

Diagnosis and treatment of low grade gliomas of the pediatric spine continue to evolve with technologies. Stay up to date with our recently published review. @ShimonyNir As always, more to come. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38904769/

Hola from Valdivia, Chile 🇨🇱 . Sharing our recent collaborative publication suggesting periventricular inflammation is associated with early congenital hydrocephalus via the TLR-4 pathway. CSF studies will be key. Great things from unexpected places!

Can patients with brain tumors safely go home the same day after LITT? Our pilot study shows it's safe & feasible in selected patients. 🔗:rdcu.be/elLyv
May the 4th be with you today just as it was with this lumbar TOPS procedure.

The Abstract Center for the 2025 Joint Pediatric Section Annual Meeting is now open! Submit your original research and join your colleagues in Memphis, TN this December! Learn more: cns.org/pediatric #pediatrics #neurosurgery
Sharing our efforts in understanding the rare situation of pediatric patients with brain tumors also presenting with metastasis at initial diagnosis. Molecular diagnosis again proving key to treatment.

Great read for those with academic interests about the publishing landscape and the emergence of open access….. “One of the delisted journals is the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (MDPI), which published about 17 000 articles last year.”
The commercialization of open access publishing: progress or predicament? jnis.bmj.com/content/17/3/2…
Adding our latest update on clinical trials involving focused ultrasound (FUS) currently underway for brain tumors. The appetite is there, the prelim theory promising, and majority of results due soon! @INSIGHTEC

Exciting to share rare pediatric syndromes like Wolcott-Rallison Syndrome (autosomal recessive disorder defined by early-onset non-autoimmune diabetes, skeletal dysplasia, and multi-organ dysfuction) and how we approached a complex cervical decompression in this setting.

Presenting @PedsSection annual meeting in the concrete jungle of NY on 1) Bolivian pediatric medulloblastoma and 2) pro-inflammatory pathway in congenital hydrocephalus. The standard in this field continues rising.

2-for-1 Black Friday special for our group on pediatric global neurosurgery both published today. One looks at pediatric epilepsy around the world and associations with food, and one looks at pediatric myelomeningocele around Latin America and associations with prenatal repair.

This very interesting case of a novel LZTR1 variant in familial schwannomatosis - more to be learned and determined in peripheral nerve oncology! The intersting thought next is to compare pediatric samples as they age.

What an experience in La Paz 🇧🇴 - to see the fruition of months of work emerge as the Pre-Congress Pediatric Workshop followed by the participation in 50th anniversary annual meeting of Bolivian Neurosurgery Society. Working w Solidarity Bridge and UWisconsin was a pleasure.

Here it is - our review on the latest regarding infant hydrocephalus. Although our understanding has never been better, still more to come! pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39085190/ @ShimonyNir

Proud to share 3rd paper in our series on the needs of pediatric neurosurgery in La Paz, Bolivia. Here we summarize the clinical outcomes shunts at the Children's Hospital La Paz and . Thanks to @PedsSection & @missionbrainorg for their support. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38985316/

Sharing our latest experience w robotic laser therapy for brain tumors in octogenarians in @WorldNeurosurg. we show it’s feasible in this cohort, and so need to figure out the best way it can augment current treatment options.

Proud to share 2nd paper in our series on the needs of pediatric neurosurgery in La Paz, Bolivia. Here we summarize the clinical neurosurgical capacity at the Children's Hospital La Paz. Thanks to @PedsSection & @missionbrainorg for their support. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38788242/
