This for this #FunFactFriday we look at the scenic overlook of "The Highway to the West," located on @FortLeavenworth. Scaled by the Lewis and Clark expedition in 1806, hundreds of supply wagons that were hauled up by horses or oxen created the cut remains in the hillside today.



A monument honoring the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion can be found on @FortLeavenworth, Kansas. The unit, sorted and delivered backlogs of undelivered mail exceeded expectations, meeting their goal in three months, earning a positive reputation across the @USArmy.

During the Civil War, Fort Leavenworth functioned as an arsenal, supply base, training and organizational camp for volunteer troops. Opposition forces prompted the construction of defensive fortifications inside Fort Leavenworth, manned by members of the Seventh Kansas Militia.
