Did you know in 2004 the Digital Library of the Caribbean (dLOC) was organized. The Digital Library of the Caribbean (dLOC) is a cooperative digital library for resources from and about the Caribbean and circum-Caribbean.

Everyone’s always asking “UFLIB, when do the libraries open?” but never… “UFLIB how are you?” “UFLIB why are you so good at supporting our research and educational needs?” “UFLIB is it normal to live in the Marston basement??”
Did you know in 2001 RefeXpress, a chat service for reference questions, was launched and the first e-books were acquired. In Spring 2000 a pilot project for providing online reference service was launched and in February 2001 RefeXpress was introduced through WebLUIS.

Many people do not realize how large Lib West and Smathers are, so we added a banana for scale.

Did you know in 2000 The University of Florida Digital Collections (UFDC) were established. With the dawn of the new century, the Digital Library was inaugurated in 2000, as was the PALMM (Publication of Archival, Library and Museum Materials) project.

Did you know in 1997 Special Collections was merged with the Latin American and Caribbean Collection, the Price Library of Judaica, and the African Studies Collection to form the Department of Special and Area Studies Collections.

Did you know, in 1995 the card catalog was removed from Library West?

Did you know, in 1991 The University Libraries were renamed the George A. Smathers Libraries? Along with his gift to library East, senator Smathers gifted $20 million to the Libraries in 1991, the largest gift received by the University up to that time. #Smathers100

Did you know? In 1987, Library East was renamed Smathers Library after Senator George A. Smathers provided a significant gift to renovate the building. Library East received a $2 million gift from George A. Smathers in 1989, which led to the renovation of Library East.
