I know we have people on our page who have talked about the pain of being estranged from their kids for what they say is no good reason. Every story is different, of course. But for the most part, there is often a very very good reason. Remember that.
Yes! Being believed does calm the shame. But you never ever ever have to overshare. Some things are meant only for people you trust.

Some abusive parents say “Just wait til you have kids; you’ll see!” And then their abused kids had kids…. and the survivor could never for one second imagine treating their children the way they were treated. Can you relate?
