Among the surprising discoveries I made today were that Pete's first name was actually Gene and that when he started coaching Flo Valley, he was also a fireman. But was also reminded that I was glad to have known him stltoday.com/sports/profess… via @stltoday
Sad to hear that Pete Sorber, who coached Florissant Valley CC to 10 national soccer championships before retiring in 1997, died earlier today. He was a week away from turning 96. A true gentleman and part of the fabric of the sport in St. Louis.

Part II of City SC's dealing with Minnesota stltoday.com/sports/profess… via @stltoday
The Jeong trade is the first cash-for-player in City SC history. The other "trades" were GAM deals, but this is actual money going to Minnesota. So think of it as a transfer fee. And at that price, seems pretty sure they'll pick up his option for next season.
Of the six youngest non-Homegrown players on the City SC roster, three of them, Jeong, Fall and Orozco, have signed in the past week.
Jeong scored twice for Minnesota against City SC in City SC's final game of 2024, coming off the bench to score in the 72nd and 83rd minutes.
About the name of City SC's newest acquisition, Jeong Sangbin. He's Korean, so Jeong is his family name. Even though his given name has been listed everywhere as Sang-bin, or Sang Bin, the club says he has told them that Sangbin is one word.
Another U22 signing for City SC. He's in town already stltoday.com/sports/profess… via @stltoday
SLU will play Santa Clara in Palm Desert, Calif., on Thanksgiving (Nov. 27), then play Minnesota or Stanford the next day. SLU is supposed to start a home-and-home with Santa Clara this season; no decision yet on whether they'll still play or wait a year
City SC's playoff chances have been practically zero for a while now and it doesn't help that they keep losing their most winnable games. The final gamer, with reaction from Critchley and Lowen stltoday.com/sports/profess… via @stltoday
City SC falls to Dallas 3-0. Two goals after the 78th minute for Dallas to put it away. Two wins in 19 games for City SC which is not gaining any ground. City SC with 15 shots, only two on goal
City SC with 65% possession, but can't hook up crosses in front of the goal and trails 1-0 to Dallas. Only 1 real chance, a shot by Hartel in the 4th minute that hit the crossbar and bounced away.
Fifth straight game City SC has given up the first goal. Down 1-0 in the 24th minute.

This soccer team has the nerve and gall to believe it's still out to prove something this season. There's a certain charm to that. stltoday.com/sports/column/…
