on the opposite side, i didn’t know how poor we were till I grew up cause my parents never really let us feel it. we didn’t have anything fancy even cable but i thought it was because they didn’t see the value in it, not because we couldn’t afford it. now i can handle anything.
THIS - by the way my parents responded any time i had a field trip, book fair, ANY activity that cost money, i thought we were living on the poverty line. as an adult, my mother looks at me like i’m insane when i reference this, firmly reminds me we have always been middle class

Went to a hair shop, as I tried to show the lady a picture of the hair I wanted, one of her assistants said “aunty, do you use this nails to wash clothes?” The way I looked at her ehn, you could tell my look embarrassed her. I can bet she will never try that rubbish again.
