Hermes v2 ("static_h" branch) performance at end of June 2025, relative to Hermes and QuickJS. Numbers are relative to QuickJS (1.2 means 1.2x faster); higher is better.

This is awesome! It isn't even sunny today! I take back my complaints about @teslaenergy.

Change is initially slow, but then it comes at you real fast. I have seen it a few times. The Internet, cell phones, etc. When I started working in the 90s, the internet was this "premium" thing, more of a curiosity really, few had access to it. No way it was going to become a…
Hot take: if AI keeps improving with the same pace (@elonmusk predicted it will be smarter than us in two years), and if prices don't increase exponentially, most swdevs will lose their jobs in the next ten years. No, it will not create more software jobs and it will not enable…
🤡 If you can't make progress without an LLM... "One user, who asked not to be identified, said it has been impossible to advance his project since the usage limits came into effect. “It just stopped the ability to make progress,” the user told TechCrunch."

Explanation how to use the Hermes "-base-bytecode" CLI option.
Sorry, I should explain better (you are the first one who actually asked, so respect!). It is very simple - if you are compiling a new version of a bundle, the output can be made to be more similar to an old bundle, so that the binary diff between the two is smaller. In the…
If this indeed comes to pass, AI will be writing code, music, literature, doing science research, etc. The tasks that AI cannot do well - like cleaning toilets or putting dirty dishes away - will be left for us. How exciting! Once computers were able to beat us in chess, chess…
AI is already much smarter than most humans, just not yet smarter than any human at anything and much less smart than a group of smart humans using computers (aka “a company”). But it will be. Probably smarter than any single human at anything in <2 years and smarter than all…
What a depressing future...

got your back my man
Most people don't know that Hermes can generate a bytecode bundle that is more suitable for binary diffing (for OTA) based on a previous bundle.

Matches my experience exactly, with one small caveat. For some tasks, while I could theoretically do them faster myself, in practice I don't do them at all. Ironically, this is especially true for hobby projects. I am working on one right now in my free time. Without Claude…
We ran a randomized controlled trial to see how much AI coding tools speed up experienced open-source developers. The results surprised us: Developers thought they were 20% faster with AI tools, but they were actually 19% slower when they had access to AI than when they didn't.
Very nice! This uses a Hermes fork, but Hermes itself will soon have builtin n-api support. It will be great to "prime" the ecosystem before we ship it as built-in.
