"A very readable account... should be of interest to anyone curious about the waves of migration and intermixing that resulted in the rich tapestry that makes up the people of today's India" -Venki Ramakrishnan, molecular biologist, Nobel Laureate

The sad and steady decline of a once-great institution brought down by bias, narrow-mindedness and politics.
Archaeologist Amarnath Ramakrishna has been asked by ASI to rewrite report on Keezhadi excavation 2 years after its submission. Ramakrishna, who played a key role in bringing out evidences of urban civilisation in Madurai, was abruptly transferred out of Keezhadi in 2017. 1/2
Amarnath Ramakrishna, the archaeologist, whose excavation in Keezhadi in T.N. drew the nation’s and the world’s attention towards the ancient Tamil civilisation, has been transferred to Greater Noida as Director, National Mission on Monument and Antiquity. thehindu.com/news/national/…
Keezhadi excavator Amarnath transferred after ASI row. That too to a defunct post. The DMK, CPIM, Congress, VCK have all protested this- rightfully so thenewsminute.com/tamil-nadu/kee…
The problem is not the loss of IAF fighter jets on the first night. The IAF adapted after that, as the CDS explained. Acknowledging the losses thus gives Pakistan zero advantage. Real problem is the political cover up being attempted for combat losses in a military engagement.
I walked off his show on @timesnow and never went back. Can proudly say that I have refused all invitations from #RepulsiveTV.
Why so angry for not being invited on @republic for a long time?

Just take a pause for 30 seconds and think about it. The highest constitutional court of India has greenlit a 3-member special investigation team to *INVESTIGATE* two social media posts. What will they investigate?? How is this country real? How is the judiciary so useless?
SC: SIT directed to be constituted within 24 hours, the petitioner shall join the investigation and fully co-operate the investigation, it is made clear that interim bail is given to facilitate further investigation
Why though? What law does one violate by not writing in “simple & neutral language”? By this logic, most academics will be in jail. In any case, Khan’s post was largely simple & neutral. Unfortunate that the highest constitutional court of this country would pass such comments.
Ali Khan Mahmudabad should have used simple and neutral language without hurting the sentiments of others, says Supreme Court.
as a citizen, i'm pained and anguished. the Constitution does not put any such restrictions on 'joining hands' to raise voice against State excesses and misuse of laws. whether students or professors or commoners.
SC: today only we read in paper, the students and professors- if they dare to do anything, we will not accept this, if they try to join hands etc, we know how to deal with these people, they are within our jurisdiction
Please take moment to understand what Justice Surya Kant did today. He found *nothing* criminal in content against which FIRs were filed against Prof Ali Khan. Yet formed SIT, restricted his foreign travel, gagged him from future speech & threatened (again!) academics from bench
Growing up in the 80s and 90s, there was a group of research scientists who went beyond their ivory towers, grants and h-indices to popularize science among kids. Jayant Narlikar, Yash Pal and Girish Karnad (not a career researcher) did no less than Carl Sagan or Bill Nye (not a…
This kind of language is not just against News laundry What amazes me is how legitimate media outlets give airtime to someone like him At least NOW I hope that changes! As I have said often enough in a man's world there is no consequence to disrespecting women and often even…
Today, the Delhi HC made it clear that Abhijit Iyer Mitra’s tweets are unacceptable. He has to take it down. His lawyer tendered apology and said will take down in 5 hours. I want to ask journalists who get him on panels, what is your excuse? A few samples
His tweet is bone chilling. Because, he & his ilk shape the Govt’s agenda
He's justifying the arrest. In fact he's calling for even more repression.
It would be better if the leading news channels outsourced their entire production to Bollywood. Some song and dance to go with the fake action scenes will be entertaining and emoting by trained actors will be better than the low-quality stuff put out by raving anchors.
This is a staggering chart. Indian middle class wages have stagnated over the past decade while food prices have gone up. In my newsletter today ft.com/content/57bcc9…

I've never seen such reluctance to speak on the record by journalists and wildlife advocates as on this one about Vantara. These two groups are usually among the most willing to talk. The culture of silence is loud abc.net.au/news/2025-04-1…
