Tip! If you are prepping your remarks 2 minutes is about 140(ish) words, or a short paragraph. Current congressional maps and link to submit online testimony is here: capitol.texas.gov/tlodocs/89R/sc…
Houston, it’s time to stand up and be heard. Governor Abbott and Donald Trump are trying to take away the power of our votes and our voices. We won’t sit idly by while this assault on our democracy takes place. 📍 University of Houston Student Center 🕚 Tomorrow at 11am 🗣️…

for anyone following along: there are clearly *hundreds* of people signed up to speak at this TX redistricting hearing in houston. the committee has come up with these rules: speakers will get 2 min each & the hearing will end after 5 hours of public testimony.
Which is why need more hearings! 3 House hearings for this whole state? Come one.
this isn't always the case, but houston is *absolutely showing up today* for this TX legislature redistricting hearing at UH. the room (capacity: 600) is completely full and i'm hearing there are around 100 people outside & they're chanting "this is what democracy looks like"
An update on parking! The parking is free, and there are additional lots available too.
Heading to UH to fight back against the redistricting/gerrymandering? Here’s what you need to know. First, logistics: - Closest parking garages will be the Welcome Garage and the East Garage. - The rally is at Lynn Euysen Park, kind of behind the Hilton.

Two of the first three speakers I’ve seen at the bonus hearing were high schoolers. These are the people the GOP committee members voted not to listen to.
Republicans cut off public testimony on their partisan maps, silencing Texans who traveled hours to speak. So we created “The People’s Hearing” to listen to those voices. When Republicans run from accountability, Texas House Democrats show up for you. #txlege
The People’s Hearing is still going. Texans have a voice, and they’re using it. 🗣️ #txlege - La Audiencia del Pueblo aún continúa. Las y los texanos tienen voz, y la están usando. 🗣️ #txlege

After Republicans ended official testimony about redistricting for the day, Texas House Democrats started an "after party" to keep listening to those who came to the Capitol to make their voices heard. Live stream via @TexasHDC youtube.com/live/ByA6YUPoW… #txlege
About 75 people stayed to testify after the #txlege cut off testimony on the unjust and improper mid-decade redistricting. Thank you to the members who stayed behind give these Texans a chance to make their voices heard.
.@emilyebytx speaking tonight at the hearing on TX redistricting, addressing one of the more absurd parts of this process: no one has actually seen a proposed map. she asks republicans to "also hear testimony on the actual maps, not just on the idea of drawing them"
They started public testimony around 2:50 PM. They will cut testimony off after five hours. There are over 170 people registered to testify. It is 4:51 PM and we are on witness number………. 11.
