A loose memory of how we used to “hack ASCII” if we wanted to text in english was by replacing the Arabic letters that had no corresponding sound in English with numbers - also looked vaguely similar. ح was 7 (a sharp h sound.) ع was 3 and so on. All on a blackberry may I add
