I'm so excited and relieved that our NIH R35 grant has been renewed!! NoA received and grant actually started this July!! We will continue to advance our research on ubiquitin and translation control for the next 5 years!! Hoping to see more posts like this from y'all too🙌🏾🙌🏾

📣In a collaboration with the @amcdarnell , we discuss the complexity of the ribosome ubiquitin code and what the field has done to crack it! "The ribosome ubiquitination code: fine-tuning translation under stress" Read it here: sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Flooding social media with good news today. @Neal_Lab received a NoA! Grateful our NIH R35 MIRA renewal is funded to support our ongoing work on membrane protein quality! 🙏🙏
When they came for Black&Brown folks, or #DEI efforts, I heard little commotion Only with these new NIH directives has the scientific community become concerned with the future of academic institutions. It will not stop here If you are not rich & conservative, you are at risk
As this is a delicate political moment, in which words are being weaponized, can we get some of the language right? DIVERSE is a feature of a group, not a person! A person is what they are. There is no such thing as a diverse hire/employee. Thank you. scientificamerican.com/blog/voices/di…
No study section...no grant reviews No grant reviews...no grants awarded No grants awarded...no research No research...no functional NIH And if your salary was funded by NIH, no paycheck either if this lasts indefinitely
NIH appears to have canceled/postponed all of its study sections—the independent review panels that approve federal grants for health research. Such grants fund the work/salaries of 300k people at more than 2,500 institutions

So thankful this week for my amazing WRAP community! Having @SandyDarity @DukeSocialEQ share incredible insights about how to advocate for yourself and learning more about how he has trained so many amazing scholars was the exact thing I needed this week! @DukeFacultyAdv @DukeU
Cool! Cluster hire of 8 junior faculty this year, with more to come. Focus on great science and people who promote inclusive excellence.

Inspired by Dr. Rey Tirgar, we started an "Appreciation Box" that we open 1x a month in our lab meeting. It was a great moment to celebrate the #kindness and support in the Silva lab. These are some of the general ones as people took their notes with them! Highly recommend!❤️

Just saying it one more time: We are hiring 3 folks, y'all!
📢 JOB ALERT! Three assistant professor positions in any area of ecology, evolution and organismal biology, special interest in plant and fungal biology. Apply before October 15: biology.duke.edu/about-us/jobs
This week, the PhD candidate Cait Seluzicki visited us from @HopkinsMedicine and shared her great research in neuronal response to heat shock! The lab is busy this semester and we had to keep it together to support our undergrads, like Joy, who presented her summer project! 😊
