"Tess of the Storm Country" (1922) stars Mary Pickford, directed by John S. Robertson. Based on Grace Miller White's novel, it's a remake of Pickford's earlier film and was later remade as a sound version with Janet Gaynor.
International Cinema "Mata Hari: The Red Dancer" (1927) is a German silent drama by Friedrich Feher starring Magda Sonja, Wolfgang Zilzer, and Fritz Kortner. It portrays the life and death of WWI spy Mata Hari and was shot at Berlin’s Staaken Studios with sets by Alfred Junge.


We don't admire the clean, simple cinematography of some of these early slapstick comedies enough

"Sadie Thompson" (1928) stars Gloria Swanson as a "fallen woman" clashing with a zealous missionary in Pago Pago. Controversial yet successful, it later added sound with music, effects, and a theme but no spoken dialogue.
International Cinema "Madame Pompadour" (1927) is a British silent historical drama directed by Herbert Wilcox, starring Dorothy Gish, Antonio Moreno, and Nelson Keys. It portrays Madame de Pompadour, mistress of Louis XV, and was the first film shot at Elstree Studios.



Lost Movie #157 "Under the Yoke" (1918) is a silent drama directed by J. Gordon Edwards starring Theda Bara. Based on George Scarborough’s short story "Maria of the Roses," this American film is now considered lost, with no known surviving copies or prints.

"Speedy" (1928) stars Harold Lloyd in his final silent role. Directed by Ted Wilde, it was later released with sound due to fading interest in silents. Filmed in NYC and Hollywood, it featured writing by DeMond, Grey, and others.
International Cinema "The Love of Jeanne Ney" (1927) is a German silent drama directed by Georg Wilhelm Pabst, adapted from Ilya Ehrenburg's novel. Released as "Lusts of the Flesh" in the UK.
