The sense of touch is innately private, but what if it could be shared across individuals? We @StanfordVR studied shared body sensations in VR and found it increases body illusion and empathy toward others and influences social behavior. #ISMAR2024 🔗vhil.stanford.edu/publications/s…

My supervisor @MadelineBalaam is hiring a new Post-doc at @KTHuniversity! 🤩 Our team is particularly interested in researchers with a psychology background, experience in quantitative studies, while also engaging with creative approaches. kth.se/lediga-jobb/82…
Conversation flows are shaped by subtle social cues—gaze, movement, group dynamics 🗣️📣. What if we could predict who speaks next in VR just by watching these signals? We built models that do just that across 77 classroom VR sessions. #cscw2025 vhil.stanford.edu/publications/m…

🏅Our work won Honorable Mention Award at #CHI2023! @MSFTResearch @StanfordHCI With @twi_mar @Eyal_Ofek @ericwang0701 and Andy Wilson, we explored the duality of preserving realism in avatar motion and inducing a sense of embodiment in VR. Learn more: hci.st/embodiedPhysics
It was a blast working with @ZhaoYR_722 to investigate how affective touch could mitigate in-the-moment anxiety as a wearable intervention. Thanks to all collaborators and advisors of this work @tanzeemc @plopesresearch. Learn more our #Ubicomp2023 paper: doi.org/10.1145/3569484
@tao_yujie and I were curious: what bodily pathways can mitigate anxiety with minimal attention? We evaluated affective touch and found that it facilitate emotion regulation and hence mitigate in-the-moment anxiety! Read more: dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/35… #Ubicomp2023
I’m co-chairing visit days for Stanford CS this year again! 🎉🥳 This year we (@lindsaypopowski, @tao_yujie, @sw2pnil ) wanted to create a code of conduct for the in-person weekend! Does your department already do this? Advice, resources, and RTs appreciated 🙏
Thank you so much, Mar! I feel so grateful to work with you over the past summer. Thanks for being such an amazing mentor! Stay tuned to our new work coming up at #CHI2023!
Congrats @tao_yujie for your acceptance to #CHI2023 🎉 It is a pleasure to work with self-driven people and hard coders like you! 🙏🥇 A sneak peak of what we did in this post: linkedin.com/posts/margonza…
Our department mourns the loss of its founder, Dr. Frederick P. Brooks, Jr., a pioneer in computer science and recipient of the A.M. Turing Award, National Medal of Technology & numerous others. He was kind, humble & a friend and mentor to all. go.unc.edu/o2QKd
How can we prevent breaks in immersion while in VR? Our #uist2022 work @plopesresearch @UChicagoCS explored a new concept, in which we "integrate" real-world distractions (e.g., noises, accidental touch, smell) into virtual reality. Learn more here at lab.plopes.org/#vr-distraction!
"I understand the gravity of being a woman and now a #Nobel laureate in the sciences. There aren't that many of us—yet." Prof. @CarolynBertozzi on chemistry, mentorship and representation ⬇️
so glad to see our work on softness illusion at uist last year is making its way to an actual class👀 check out more here lab.plopes.org/#altersoftness
Plan to introduce some fun facts about haptics in next week’s design class. Testing the low-fi prototypes of the softness illusion, and it really works!! Thanks to @tao_yujie’s guidance and open-source files! Amazing work! ✏️🪙
Yay!! Congrats @JunNishidaLab ㊗️
