Helping tired artists rekindle their love for art. ✏️ Portrait Bootcamp: https://bit.ly/sylportrait
My portrait bootcamp is for you if you: - Spend too much time thinking about drawing rather than actually drawing - Don't know what to study - Get overwhelmed by all there is to learn - Struggle to balance art with other responsibilities - Thrive with accountability 👇

There will always be naysayers. People will believe creativity is not meant for you. They’ll say it’s not a job, or you won’t make it, or that you’re wasting your time. But you’re the only one who gets to decide what you’re capable of. Keep going. 2010 vs 2024

If the thought of creating makes you anxious, you need to create. All that energy is pent up and begging to be released. Make ANYTHING. Even if it's a mess. You won't feel better until you do.
Drawing something wrong is not wasted time. It’s an opportunity to experiment and discover. An accident is always a happy one if you choose to find the good in it.
I wrote an article for TrueRef about how to use reference to develop your visual library and draw from imagination. So excited to see it released!
Our first artist article is up on TrueRef! 🤍 Learning to Draw With References: Tips for New Artists By @sylessae Includes a free reference, worksheet and process video!
When learning from other artists, keep asking "what do I like about this?" instead of getting too rigid with your comparison. Explore what you like. Leave the rest.
Don't mistake a popular art style as the ONLY art style that will allow your work to be seen.

Reminder that I have a portrait drawing bootcamp that's designed specifically for busy individuals who want to learn to draw portraits but don't have all day to practice. Ready to start? 👉 bit.ly/sylportrait
Making art only seems hard because you've attached other expectations to the process. Why must it look a certain way? Why does your idea have to be rigid? Why do you have to share it? Why does it have to be perfect before it's done? Why not experiment?
Keep drawing artists. Even when you think you’ve missed your shot, you’re closer now than you’ve ever been.
Dear son,
If you're art blocked, don't keep trying the same thing. Try a new medium. Write about it. Put it into a song. Move your body. You can't always fix a stuck perspective from inside the same one.
Replace your morning scroll with 30 minutes of doodling. You'll feel less anxious, grow more confident in your art, and finally have time to create. New habit, new artist.
