My second book HARD TO WATCH: HOW TO FALL IN LOVE WITH DIFFICULT MOVIES is up for preorder on Amazon and should be available soon with a range of other vendors if it isn’t already. The kindle date is incorrect: it comes out in October. a.co/d/8z8qLqp
I have a new essay in Jacobin, arguing that homelessness is at odds with the ideal of a democratic society. I'll take this opportunity to mention that I'm writing a book for Oxford UP elaborating on the ideas in this piece. It will be a trade book, meant for a popular audience.
Homelessness is often thought of either as an issue of individual moral failings or merely of bad policy. It should instead be seen as a moral crisis for our democracy, one that demands transformative economic reforms. jacobin.com/2025/07/homele…
As someone who watches every shark movie: this is easily the best one since the 47 Meters Down movies and just an absolute blast. By Sean Byrne, who directed THE LOVED ONES. I was not familiar with Jai Courtney’s game.

Had a “what the hell could that insane sound possibly be?!!” experience and it turned out that a raccoon had climbed the tree outside my window and disturbed a wasp nest and was getting stung repeatedly and screaming raccoon screams.
Just checking in to see how the neighbors are feeling about the gentrification of Montana.

Watching the German leaked copy (which includes the English audio)and wow, this new Ron Howard movie is going to blow everyone’s mind. Forget everything you think you know about Ron Howard. Wild stuff.
Handed off a complete revised draft of my third book, THE TRASH COLLECTOR, to my editor. There’s still more work before all is said and done, but hot damn does it feel good.
Constantly tinkering with this and I deeply love about 25 of them, but approximately….
no one ever posts their fritz lang rankings anymore
Took me a while but I’m glad my interview with Tsui Hark is finally out! It’s not every day that you get the chance to talk with a truly legendary filmmaker about the film that changed his career screenslate.com/articles/tsui-…
