This is how China is cleaning its roads 😮 Who is stopping us from using it?
The Env Agency cancelled 10,000 water inspections due to staff shortages This included investigations into unsustainable water abstraction in the North West Less than a month after the pause came into effect, the EA declared a drought in the North West endsreport.com/article/192670…
Regulator Environment Agency cancels water quality tests: “The work affected by the cuts to testing this year included investigations into the water industry in various parts of the country, and monitoring of protected areas including the River Wye”. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
Once you think about how tyres actually work (abrasion for grip), where water runs off roads to (local streams with minimal treatment) and how many cars there are, you quickly realise how massive an issue microplastics from tyres is. independent.co.uk/news/science/p…
This is what I want to read over my cornflakes. Steve Reed recognises that runoff from farms & roads also makes up a critical part of the pollutants going into rivers. My work here is done 😃theguardian.com/environment/20…
One of the few benefits of this hot, dry weather in nature is that exposed stands of Himalayan Balsam are struggling. Shallow roots are the enemy in a drought ☠️

An 18 sec. reminder about #stormwater & pollution. Please help keep @Morrisville_NC #waterways clean.
IMPORTANT. Please sign and repost. This petition is based on our recent research which found that English rivers are universally contaminated with these potent neurotoxic insecticides, the source being treated dogs and cats. Link in comment below.
Truly magnificent floating wetland habitat in Bristol Harbour 🤩 I’d love to see some of these in Preston Docks 👍🏻

One of the critical considerations when sampling insects in rivers is ‘will the stream be deeper than my wellies?’ 😂 Luckily for Sam, the answer today was ‘No!’ 👍🏻

On #WorldOceanDay please can we make a commitment to deliver treatment schemes at highway outfalls, at pace, to keep #Microplastic tyre-wear particles out of our oceans 💦

One of the easiest things we can do to reduce river pollution is to stop using spot-on flea treatments on dogs that play in water. I've a short-haired dog and I've only ever treated him for fleas twice in 10 years, when we could see that he had them. Only treat them when you must
Our latest research shows spot-on flea treatments on dogs are released into water when dogs swim even 28 days after treatment - in contrast to the label which suggests dogs can safely swim 48 h after treatment. newscientist.com/article/248265…

This is the runoff from the M6 into the River Darwen this evening. But where is the regulator? At home watching TV with a cup of tea is my guess 🤷🏼♀️
It rained last night 🥳Only 10mm, but it was the first rain for ages. That means only one thing; horrific pollution from highway runoff. From left to right, the discharges from M6 to the River Darwen, the M6 to the River Ribble and the A59 to the River Ribble. @RobGMacfarlane

MADNESS? They sell chocolate milk with 14 ingredients. We make ours with 3. That’s not a typo — most chocolate milk on the shelf is a cocktail of thickeners, emulsifiers, artificial flavourings, stabilisers and things like carrageenan (which some studies have linked to gut…
Exciting times! Working with Aquawatch, we have a pair of water quality monitors in the River Darwen, measuring the size of the pollution caused by the M6 runoff. We want to see if simple analysis of turbidity & conductivity can pick up the pollution caused by the motorway runoff
