The early 2010s were a great time for a certain type of crime film - low-key, gritty and realistic, with working class characters, an indie spirit, and plenty of heart.
Definitely holds up well. I’d say it’s highly underrated and really should be talked about more. I’m assuming it didn’t get much play on TV or streaming to be so overlooked? But it’s well worth a revisit for thriller/horror/noir fans. One of Cage’s best imo. Schumacher’s too!
Revisiting this. I remember it as a gritty, grimy, intense thriller that unsettled me, but I was about 17 when I saw it last. Let’s see how it holds up now some twenty plus years down the road 🤘💀
