CalArts only takes the most surface level features of anime possible so they can subsume them. “Anime inspired” is nice and vague and lets them have things like: “hype aura Goku power up”, “le funny zoom in face/expression change”, and “heckin animated fight scene”
It is even funnier considering that CalArts makes it very clear they hate anime and considers it "trash," even the ghibli stuff. And here we are, uncovering the fact that CalArts ripped its beanmouth corpo nonsense from anime.
