BREAKING: Sun releases 160,000-mile long plasma filament off southwest limb

There ain’t nothin’ going on! We’ll let you know when somethin’s goin’ on!
STUNNING new video from the NOAA GOES satellite shows a large-scale prominence eruption occurring on the Sun this morning. The large solar storm is not currently expected to be Earth-directed.

ANOTHER QUIET JULY? The month of July hasn't been supportive of strong geomagnetic storms in the last decade, probably due to the orientations of the Earth/solar magnetic fields. Here's a crazy stat for you--there actually hasn't been a moderate geomagnetic storm or stronger…

Sorry for the late notice, but if you're looking for something to do tonight, tune into Astronomical League live! I'll be giving the keynote presentation about aurora science and photography.
.@Vincent_Ledvina will be giving a talk this evening on Explore Scientific’s Astronomical League livestream this evening on chasing the aurora, check it out here!! explorescientific.com/pages/explore-…
Would be a major shame if all real-time solar wind data was not available in the near-future due to mission cancellation. Would have no decent way of determining solar storm arrival at Earth until it's already upon us!
So, I was reading the FY26 President's Budget for NASA, and the DSCOVR, ACE, and WIND missions are proposed to be canceled. Sooo where are we going to get solar wind data? Supposedly, we will have SWFO-L1 launching in September which will provide solar wind measurements, but…
Hey @spacewxwatch, the two photos below, one the clearest picture of the sun taken by @NASASun, and the other is my photo of nerve fibers in the brain using the microscope. Close enough? Does nature repeat itself?😜☀️🔬
I’m just gunna keep watching the Sun, I’ll let you know if anything interesting is going on over there 👀😆

It appears we're in the declining phase of the solar cycle. Solar activity has really dropped off, as you can see. June's numbers should rebound a bit following a very low May. In the meantime, pop your space wx questions in the comments below and I'll respond to a few 👀
