The Clerk announced the Speaker's designation of July 23 to Sept 1 as a district work period.
Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) says in a statement of this apparent freeze: "... there was a malfunction in my earpiece. I heard a loud screeching noise with a lot of static. It sounded like a 747 taking off." Full statement:

New: Amid reports that Roy Cooper will run for Senate, Sen. Ted Budd (R-NC) told me he believes Cooper “did not leave on a good note,” & painted prior wins as a fluke: BUDD: “Those were not strong [GOP] offerings in 2016 and 2020…we could have done a lot better those 2 years.”

Buried in amendments to the Interior Dept. Gov funding bill, is a stipulation that the Kennedy Center Opera House must be renamed the 'First Lady Melania Trump Opera House' in order to receive federal funds. The Appropriations Committee adopted that amendment by a vote of 33-25.
