Just watched "Flower Drum Song" (1961) on #TCM and thoroughly enjoyed it. Charming story and a tuneful Rodgers & Hammerstein score, it made a hit with me. This is the first time I've seen it in its completeness. #TCMParty

A VERY SAD FAREWELL Connie Francis was one of the first singers I became aware of in the early 60s when she was a top star and I was discovering music. From her soaring voice on Where The Boys Are to the cuteness of Stupid Cupid I always liked her. Connie has died at age 87. RIP

Ginger Rogers #BOTD in 1911. Someone once famously quipped, "Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did, only backwards and in high heels."

Appreciation post for actress Norma Shearer (b. 1910), on #TCM today in "Strangers May Kiss". One of the few making a successful transition from silent to sound films, I also loved her in "The Divorcee", "A Free Soul", "Marie Antoinette" & "The Women", et al. #TCMParty

Later on #TCM, Cary Grant, Irene Dunne & Randolph Scott star in "My Favorite Wife" (1940), a hilarious comedy about a woman long thought dead who comes back just as her husband is about to remarry. Remade in 1963 as "Move Over, Darling" with Doris Day & James Garner. #TCMParty

Don't miss Joan Crawford today in one of her best roles in "A Woman's Face" (1941), in which she plays a nefarious blackmailer with a facial disfigurement who falls in love with the surgeon who restores her beauty. Melvyn Douglas & Conrad Veidt costar. #TCM #TCMParty

Addendum to my earlier post: "My Favorite Wife" was in the process of being remade as "Something's Got to Give" with Marilyn Monroe & Dean Martin in 1962, but Monroe died before the film could be completed. It was then turned into "Move Over, Darling" (1963) w/Doris Day.

Currently watching "Boys' Night Out" (1962), starring Kim Novak & James Garner. Novak produced this vehicle herself, wanting more creative input after being under contract to Columbia for years. Tony Randall & Howard Duff costar. #TCM #TCMParty

Airing tonight on #TCM at 7:00 PDT, "The Scarlett Empress" (1934) with Marlene Dietrich, directed by Josef von Sternberg. While not my favorite of their seven collaborations (mine is "Shanghai Express"), the film, and Dietrich, are visually stunning. #TCMParty

Anyone up for some Greta Garbo today in "Anna Karenina"? Beautifully filmed & acted, this 1935 adaptation of the Leo Tolstoy novel is a classic! Catch it today on #TCM at 1:45 PDT, followed immediately afterward by a 2005 docmentary on Garbo herself. #TCMParty
