This week, we feature birds from MNHN. Learn about Marie Firmin Bocourt, the collector of these specimens ✍🏻 These birds were collected more than a century ago in the 1860s. Despite their age, they retain their vibrant colouration. Find out more in the post! 🦜

This week on the MNHN series, we showcase some notable historical reptile specimens—the oldest of which was collected 195 years ago. The specimens featured here represent the earliest known local records, making them a particularly important source of information for scientists🔎

This week, we share about the mollusc type specimens digitised in MNHN. These five gastropod specimens are considered micromolluscs due to their extremely small size (even when fully grown). Although tiny, these type specimens are invaluable to the world of malacology🌎

This week, we showcase a few skeletal specimens digitised in MNHN. With mammals, skeletons, especially skulls, are important bones for identification. Skulls reveal information including the animal's diet and lifestyle through teeth and jaw structures, and eye placement.

This week, we look at a woodpecker specimen, collected almost 185 years ago, during the voyage of the ‘Danaïde’! It was later transferred to the MNHN at the end of the voyage. Flip to find out more 🚢

Kickstarting the MNHN series, we present some notable beetle types imaged by the team in Paris! 🪲 Swipe to learn about the beetle specimens collected and studied by famous names such as Raffray and Fairmaire, all of which were collected more than a century ago! 💭

In September 2024, the SIGNIFY team spent six weeks in Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle (MNHN) in Paris, France. Join us over the next weeks as we share the amazing specimens that we have digitised from MNHN, and the stories behind them!

This week, we look at an exhibit held in Japan at the end of 2024. It is an art installation by DOKYU, featuring selected SIGNIFY specimens that were framed in windows frames and other parts of previously abandoned buildings. For more, please click the link in our bio!
