We did something radical that shouldn’t feel radical: we stopped funding science built for journals so that we can reimagine scientific publishing. First at @ArcadiaScience. Now at @AsteraInstitute. More below.
💯 agree that vision is in short supply. Ambition is not the same thing as vision, although they can look similar at first. It’s refreshing when someone actually has a self derived opinion/vision regardless of whether I agree
What virtue is undersupplied today? I drafted my answer here and am very curious how others would answer this question! nanransohoff.substack.com/p/what-virtue-…
The journal system isn’t just inefficient — it’s distorting science itself. At Astera, we’ve opted out. No more journals. No shaping work around “publishable units.” Just good science, published faster and more openly. Here’s why we believe publishing needs a complete rethink:…
We @navigationfund invested big in @VoltagePark to ensure compute could be paired with high impact work in the world. Science is high up on that list for us 📈🔬
In support of the NSF-led National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource pilot, NSF announces a new partnership with @VoltagePark to match U.S. researchers with high-performance cloud computing resources and expert support to drive AI innovation. bit.ly/44yhYRP
I worry the pendulum has swung too far towards generalists over specialists, sacrificing wisdom for speed. Resulting in either boring consensus or unserious hype. There is such a thing as deep technical craft, but I’m not sure you can understand if you’ve never done it yourself
Science publishing looks totally different if you’re targeting agents that don’t care about prestige or false simplicity
I often rant about how 99% of attention is about to be LLM attention instead of human attention. What does a research paper look like for an LLM instead of a human? It’s definitely not a pdf. There is huge space for an extremely valuable “research app” that figures this out.
So excited to share this. If you're into science, please subscribe and let me and Saloni know what you think! Links to Spotify, Apple Podcasts, YouTube etc from this page: harddrugs.worksinprogress.co
LAUNCH DAY 🚀 Today I’m launching a new podcast, Hard Drugs, with Jacob Trefethen (@JacobTref) Our first episode is about lenacapavir — a new HIV drug that blocks infections with an efficacy rate of nearly 100%, and which could completely change the fight against HIV worldwide.…
Trying to do science stuff across many orgs has been thrilling. But also, I'm drowning 😱 Looking for an EA... great opportunity for someone who wants to see how the sausage is made and wants to grow into a CoS one day! Please RT jobs.lever.co/arcadiascience…
