First version of climatearchive.org is now online! The app allows interactive access to more than 100 model simulations covering the climate history of the last 540 million years! It uses a WebGL renderer (@threejs) to visualize climate data in 3D in your browser.
40++ °C heat is sweeping across Europe 🥵. Temperature alone affects our health, but combined with high humidity and low winds it can be more detrimental to us in some places. Our new paper is out! doi.org/10.1002/joc.81… @AnaVicedo9 @ClimateDann @AGasparrini75 (🧵1/2)
Great to see works of developing data science by colleagues across campus at #BristolDataWeek @JGIBristol. Two spatial data science projects from @GeogBristol were presented! @EmmanouilTranos on creating economic data from Web and @sebsteinig on a vis. tool for climate change.
🌋Mega El Niño instigated the end-Permian mass extinction📷. New research in @ScienceMagazine on how mega-El Niño solve a decades old problem in unifying both land and marine extinctions. The deadliest extinction in Earth's History. #sciencetwt #sciencetwt science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…
Learned about this very cool website at the #ACCESSCommunity24 workshop today by @sebsteinig where you can explore 500 million years of climate data. So much fun to discover different types of worlds.
🔭 STFC Harwell Science and Innovation Campus's June 2024 Open Day was a fantastic event, showcasing all the facilities across the campus and offering public visitors a chance to get to know our facilities linkedin.com/posts/dafni-fa…
20yrs ago Valdes moved to Bristol and our climate/biochemistry group (BRIDGE) was born. We celebrated our anniversary by bringing back many of our alumni. I love co-leading the group with @OceanFMonteiro - life is a lot of fun when you have such friendly and exciting colleagues❤️
We are ready for an exciting day of Science Up Close at #HarwellOpen24. Join us in our mystery box at the RAL Visitor Centre (R112) to get fully immersed in the beauty of @GeogBristol climate science, thanks to the fascinating technology by @UkcricBic and @DAFNIfacility.
Myself, @LazyAcademicus & @sebsteinig have a look at what such a world would look like. We also have a bit of a deep dive into the subject on CBC News with @dariusjmahdavi for a fun discussion on this. youtube.com/watch?v=YplIYE…
🍿📷What is the climate of Dune really like? Dune-Arrakis climate model...but with an Ocean?!📷Is an ocean world more habitable than a Desert world Arrakis? Find out below 👇 #DunePart2 #Space #SpaceX #climate #Science #sciencefiction theconversation.com/dune-what-the-…
The 37th International Geological Congress is fast approaching. Submission deadline 16th Feb! Do you have some cool paleoclimate model simulations and proxy data to show the world? Please consider joining our session 👇 igc2024korea.org Pls RT!🚨
📢Job alert! Are you interested in palaeoclimate over geological timescales? If so, we have an open post-doc @OxUniEarthSci on @NERCscience project, with me @ClimateSamwell @sebsteinig & others @bridge_geog Please RT! Deadline Feb 20th. tinyurl.com/3n8kp9c6
Confused by the complexity of chaos, randomness, & extremes that we so often discuss in the context of weather and climate? I am really proud of this explainer that we have developed over the last 6 months- ft @emily_vosper @cabotinstitute @MetOffice_Sci youtube.com/watch?v=5fRhas…

🍃 Where does the wind really come from? 🍃 As the new season of #WheelOfTime drops, we ask a Windfinder to trace the wind from Dragonmount around the whole of Randland... it's a never-ending wheel of wind #TwitterOfTime @BrandSanderson @nerdist @thedustywheel @DanielBGreene
📢Job alert! PDRA in Palaeoclimatology @OxUniEarthSci on @NERCscience funded project investigating Phanerozoic climate gradients using models & data. Join the team with me, Helen Johnson, @ClimateSamwell @sebsteinig & Paul Valdes @bridge_geog Please RT tinyurl.com/2p8xk4r9
I'm thrilled to announce 3 fully funded PhD opportunities in Climate Change and Health 🥳 You'll be doing novel research with experts from @cabotinstitute and @EBIBristol @BristolUni All info can be found here: bristol.ac.uk/cabot/postgrad… Brief project info in this 🧵.
