Sad news: the people on the boat were intercepted by an unmarked fast vessel that brought them back to Libya. They were forced back to torture camps, while Italy blocks civilian sea-rescue vessels in port & the racist EU dismisses its responsibility to render assistance.
Our air crew just spotted a rubber boat with ~40 people in distress in the central med. The waves are high and water is entering the boat, the situation is critical! THEY NEED HELP IMMEDIATELY!
We are very happy to hear that sea rescue operations in the Mediterranean are running smoothly for #Frontex officials.

Yesterday, we assisted ~40 people in distress with #Aurora, stabilizing the dinghy & providing life jackets until the 🇮🇹 coastguard arrived. We are relieved that all survivors reached Lampedusa safely ✊. The EU must create safe passages so no one has to flee across the sea!

Only 2 years ago the 🇬🇷 coastguard was responsible for one of the deadliest shipwrecks in the Mediterranean. But instead of working towards a 🇪🇺 wide search & rescue operation, @kmitsotakis abolishes human rights one by one. Asylum is not optional! ekathimerini.com/politics/forei…
During our night patrol on 7th of July, we found a boat in distress & rescued 52 people. Italy assigned us the port of Pozzallo, Sicily - meaning an unnecessary day at sea. Last night, everybody finally went ashore. We’re relieved & full of respect for their resilience.

🆘️ ~550 people in distress south of #Crete! Last night we were in contact with this group who told us that water was entering the boat. We could not reach them since & don't have any news from the authorities. The last position was close to #Greek waters - rescue is needed now!
81 people in distress.@Frontex spotted them - a speedboat, probably a Libyan militia, moved in. This is how Europe enables illegal pullbacks. But we were there first with our Aurora & were able to rescue everyone. This morning, everyone arrived safely in Lampedusa.

2 iron boats in the Central Med, carrying 60 & 52 people, almost sinking, were ignored by authorities for many hours. Only the sailing boat Garganey VI responded, rescuing the first boat and assisting the second until the Italian CG eventually arrived. instagram.com/p/DLnf1TRIuu9/
