After going through some real real grown up life shit, I understand why Ghostface just wanted to rap over some of them soul songs with no chopping or even looping
"Be A Man Hogan" is up there with "No Vaseline," "Takeover," "Dollaz and Sense" in the pantheon of great diss songs
5 mins after this tweet, I'm reading to my kid at the library and come across this:
Whatever labels anybody wants to throw on subgenres of hip-hop music is just for marketing and music criticism purposes. Is the music good? If the answer's yes, call the shit whatever you want as long as it's not disrespectful...except "lyrical." I hate "lyrical."
youtu.be/CrSgnhXtto8?si… One of my favorite things I've said in a verse (& Respect if you thought of it too)
Take my Ls in silence like Montrezl
Smoothe Da Hustla and Trigga Da Gambler were great rap names. Kinda been downhill since then Oh and I also like the name Trademark da Skydiver
I'm glad we out of that "First Name, the _______" era of rap names I know so many _____, The Rapper ass niggas Shit sound weak as fuck And niggas never be having bars fr l m a o except for maybe Jaz the battle rap shawty
Damn. Great observation. TBH as someone born in ‘77 there’s still a not-insignificant part of me that expects representations of rap on tv to start, “My name is (something), and I’m the (something else).”
If you living a Champaign murder life you probably ain't got too far to go
why would you kill someone in champaign & go to indiana 🤨 people slow as hell.
Need this story now because Champaign is supposed to be the "go to" place innit?
why would you kill someone in champaign & go to indiana 🤨 people slow as hell.
From the ages of 10-13 or so, i'd go with my mom to the grocery store. While she shopped I would read an entire Source magazine (or Vibe, Rolling Stone, etc) So I knew who Rakim/Kane/KRS was, well before I ever heard any of their albums. Idk if there is an equivalent today
I feel what you sayin too G the kids climate hella different tho media in our time recognized that history you allude to a lot more than now. We had music programs at school which gave many more of us a personal investment in music. We had print magazines. They got podcasts.
"mixed & mastered" don't mean it gotta have the same sonic profile to a top 40 record though
engineering is an art form- If your personal belief or intention behind music is to have it unmixed like punk or garage rock— or if you don’t feel like it’s a necessary component that’s one thing- but don’t devalue & erase the efforts of other artists.
"mixing" and "mastering" being necessary or standard are lies peddled by the music industry to make young and independent artists less prolific
