In western NC where I live, there are a lot of Baptist churches. And those churches have been very busy helping their neighbors in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. I am grateful for their faithfulness to be Jesus’ hands & feet in a truly grimy situation! #ecumenicalmonday
Good Samaritan = not just a good example of how to love, but a chastisement of religious types (priest/Levite) who manage to somehow rationalize the neglect of human life. A 2025 version might feature evangelicals endorsing, “alligator alcatraz” memes.
"Far from establishing one in unassailable narcissistic security, the way of prayer brings us face to face with the sham and indignity of the false self..." -Thomas Merton
"...the more we keep apart from each other as Christians of different confessions”, the “less convincing” will the face of a renewed humanity seem to our contemporaries." Reading from Rowan Williams' address to Catholic bishops in Rome (2012) on this #ecumenicalmonday
Weddings are a beautiful window into Heaven not just because of the love of the bride and groom but because that love turns a bunch of strangers into family. By the end of the night, all the guests are dancing and laughing and cheering together like fools.
For her bachelorette party, my lil sister wanted to bring her friends to my house for a sleepover & WNC adventure weekend. Last night all 7 of these young women played with my kids over dinner. Encouraging to see the next generation so disinterested in flash but cool with family.
Thks to those who preordered this weekend, my book is the #1 new release in the “sacraments” section of Amazon— AKA most niche book category in the internet 😆 But to me this is as exciting as when I won a writing contest in 2nd grade. Thanks, friends, for supporting me!

No death is ever “timely.” But in the case of the precious children at Camp Mystic who have died because of the devastating floods, their deaths are so very untimely and heartbreakingly painful. It’s for them that we pray this prayer on behalf of their parents.
Undone over this flash flood tragedy at Camp Mystic girls camp in the Texas hill country. Please pray with me for these beloved children, the families of those confirmed lost and traumatized kids & camp workers. Praying with all my heart for miraculous rescues to still be ahead.
Lord, bless these little ones and hold them & their families close to you.
Asking for all prayers for a miracle for my baby girl Kellyanne. She is still one of the Mystic Campers who is unaccounted for. I’ll never forget when she told me she had a lead solo in the Christmas Pageant. She is absolutely fearless.
Reading the Chronicles of Narnia with my kids, I’m tempted to say “kids don’t win battles in real life.” But actually, the small & weak will shame the wise. They already have: a poor girl from Nazareth & her homeless son disarmed principalities & powers.
An #ecumenicalmonday reflection: we don't have to understand each other's traditions-- or even each other's language-- to see and serve Christ in each other.
Today, a group of Baptists partnered with some Anglicans to host a housewarming party for two Catholic families whose homes they helped rebuild after Helene. Half speak English, half speak Spanish. All were strangers to e/o before the flood. Now they’re family.
Anyone who thinks youth ministry is “junior” ministry hasn’t talked to many teenagers.
Mom life lately, and probably all life, seems to mean increasingly reading ads about how someone's life/parenting/health was horrible until they discovered X supplement/mushroom brew. If there was ever a toxic empathy, these adverts might be wielding it.
Why being in touch with the land keeps us fully human: “When everything else has gone from my brain…what will be left, I believe, is topology: the dreaming memory of land as it lay this way and that.” — Annie Dillard, “An American Childhood” wdavidotaylor.substack.com/p/staying-pres…

"The New Testament provides no indication that the apostolic church had a strategy based on the premise that church planing would be "more effective" if carried on w/in each separate homogenous unity &...conducted along racial or social lines." Rene Padilla of @LanghamPartners
So encouraged by Peter’s raising of Tabitha in Acts 9 this am. It’s a replica of what he saw Jesus do for Talitha in Mark 5, right down to the rhyming names. Ministry isn’t rocket science, it’s simple imitation. We repeat the motions He taught us, entrusting the results to God.
